Highlights
  • Mere Point Boat Launch - After meeting at 8:15am to get outfitted and learning how to paddle our sea kayaks, we carry our sea kayaks down to the water and launch. We will paddle as a group in NW Casco Bay to one of these two oyster farms: Mere Point Oyster Company or Love Point Oysters based on weather conditions and tides.

While heading to the oyster farm we’ll be looking for wildlife, lobstermen hauling, and learning about the history of the area. Photo opportunities are everywhere and your guide will take some candid photos.

After learning all about oyster farming and how the oysters help clean the water, we will stop for a break on an island where everyone will get to taste raw oysters either plain, with citrus, hot sauce or Alice’s Awesome Adventures Maine Blueberry Mignonette Sauce. There will be time to explore the shoreline or enjoy the views. We will return to our starting point, carry our kayaks up and debrief.

If conditions at normal starting point are unsafe, the tour might be need to be adjusted. Be sure to check your email or texts. Tips are customary at the end of the trip.

Additional Information

Experience the exceptional difference of savouring ocean-fresh oysters as opposed to having them at a restaurant. The allure is in the freshness! This marine kayaking expedition serves as a tutorial on terrestrial marine kayaking basics before we set off from Mere Point in Brunswick to explore an operational oyster farm in North West Casco Bay! A pit stop at an island for relaxation, tasting, and coastal exploration is part of the itinerary after the farm visit. Discover the benefits and impact of aquaculture in Maine on the health of the bays.

Sea kayaking is a simple, delightful method to soak up the sights from the water. We often spot various types of seagulls, cormorants, black and mallard ducks, eider ducks, great blue herons, snowy egrets, osprey and bald eagles. With a bit of luck, we might spot a seal.

This picturesque, protected, and historic area of Casco Bay is a dream destination for paddlers of all ages—no kayaking expertise required! Single and double kayaks are provided for this eco-friendly tour led by a Master Maine Guide.

Gem of an Oyster - An experience my son and husband will never forget for a lifetime. There are not many moments where you can escape from work and hecticness of life and this is one of them. Alice is very organized and focused on keeping safety and learning as part of her priority. She is so connected to the land and its people, and it was wonderful to be part of that. Thank you again Alice. Noah speaks of your trip often and shares your stories to many.

Fantastic tour for outdoorsy and foodies types alike! Super fun! - 6 of us booked a kayaking and oyster tour with Alice on a beautiful July morning. Alice taught us so much about the oyster farms we saw and pointed out so many other things like a immaculate bald eagle. We paddled out to harvest some oyster, then to an island where we learned to shuck oysters (not as hard as I thought!) then we ate the freshest, most delicious oysters I’ve ever had. The wind picked up on our way back so we got a little wet and had to paddle harder on the way back which added to the adventure. This was a highlight of our trip!

Great local flavor and comfortable kayak experience! - Alice is knowledgeable, safety oriented, has great gear, runs a terrific moderately easy tour. Her Blueberry sauce for the fresh from the sea oysters is amazing. I've gone a couple of times, brought friends who were novices and everyone had a wonderful time. Thanks, Alice!

Spectacular day! - Did this tour with wife and daughter (30). Daughter rode single, wife and I rode double. The equipment was first rate. Alice does a great job of tutoring rookie paddlers. Learned a lot about oyster farming at various stops. Then, Alice pulls a couple dozen oysters out of her cage and we go to an island and learn how to shuck an oyster and eat a couple. You will never eat a fresher oyster! After the trip we asked Alice for suggestions for how to spend the rest if our day, and she suggested exploring Harpswell and Bailey Island, which was also great fun!

Learn about oysters - Interesting tour Alice is very well informed. We didn’t paddle far and we didn’t actually find the oysters in the wild. It was nice to kyack. And learn to shuck…she was a bit impatient with us. But overall it was a great experience.
