Your Ozark native guide with take you through Old Matt’s Cabin where three of the leading characters in the novel, The Shepherd of the Hills actually lived. This log cabin sits just as it did 130 years ago and is on the National Register of Historic Places. You will visit Morgan Church during your stop at Inspiration Point which is the highest point in Southwest Missouri where Harold Bell Wright camped while writing the book. Cowboy John is great!!!!! - Full of history, interesting facts, and great narration. Cowboy John is seventh generation so his family knew the people in the story. He said the book is 75% history and 25% spice to make the story engaging. Cowboy John is a walking encyclopedia who has a great demeanor and friendly attitude. I highly recommend this tour especially is Cowboy John is your narrator.

Interesting history and great guide - Passing story, cowboy John was an excellent guide who was not just hired and memorized the script, he’s actually lived it as a family member of the neighborhood.

Worth the visit - My adult son and I went to Shepherd of the Hills, we did the copperhead coaster and the historical tour and we had such a good time. Our tour guide on the tour guide was great, he was funny and knew his history. I would suggest if you have 2 or 3 hours this was well worth it.

Great tour of Shepherd of the Hills! - John our guide, was extremely knowledgeable about the location, history and facts of this tour. It was very enjoyable, and our group happened to be small, so we had a more personal experience and probably got to see a few things that others would not. It was really great to learn about the history of the Shepherd of the Hills, and we all bought the book too!

Small tour but most interesting - Catfish was our guide. He made the tour most interesting with his encyclopedic information and vast array of experiences. My favorite parts were investigating the old post office and cabin with the numerous gadgets and furniture.
