This tour was... - This tour was comprehensive, included a cruise, visit to a 'castle', visit to the house at Hilltop Farm, Earn Hows and Hawkeshead. The tour director was well-informed, presenting information easily.

A lovely day to remember - What a lovely day! We were guided and driven by Andy, a gentleman whose knowledge, charm and professionalism were impressive. The minibus was clean and comfortable. Andy checked frequently that all his guests were getting enough a/c and could hear. The ferry ride across Lake Windermere was so beautiful, with white fluffy clouds and blue sky above the lovely hills around the lake. We enjoyed all the stops, including Wray Castle, Hawkshead, points of beauty around the lakes, the location of a Roman fort and of course, Hilltop, Beatrix Potter’s farm. The guides at the farm were so happy to go into details for anyone who wanted to talk about the furnishings, art or history , and seemed genuinely thrilled by our interest. We could have happily spent hours in the gardens. This tour would be a win for not just Beatrix Potter fans, but also to enjoy the beauty, history and charm of the Lake District.

Wonderful tour of the Lake District & Beatrix Potter- highlight of our trip! - We had such a wonderful time on this half day tour of Beatrix Potter’s home & Lake District countryside. Peter Fox our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable about both Potter and the general countryside which played to both my and my husband’s interests. We loved getting to see Potter’s home, Hill Top Farm, and learn about her sheep raising. The lake cruise on Windermere was great fun and a nice way to break up the driving. We also visited Tarn Hows which was stunning, Wray Castle, and a stop in Hawkshead, a medieval village with delicious gingerbread. When we booked the tour, we didn’t realize there would be so many opportunities to get out of the van and explore areas on our own and were thrilled that we were able to do so. Book direct through Mountain Goat to make sure you are getting the correct tour.

Sentimental journey through childhood stories - Our day touring the Lake District with our guide, Tim, was one of the highlights of this part of our trip. I had been wanting to see Beatrix Potter's home ever since I was a child hearing my grandmother read the stories to me, so this was a dream come true. Seeing Peter Rabbit's garden made the story come alive all over again. The cruise on Lake Windermere was also lovely way to enjoy the day.

A top priority Lakes Experience - I enjoyed visiting Beatrix Potter’s home Hill Top Farm but would have liked more time there. I also enjoyed the cruise on the lake and the other places we visited. I would recommend the tour to other visitors to the Lakes.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND MOUNTAIN GOAT TOURS! - I always look at reviews before I book a tour and I've been on a lot of tours. The reviews for this tour with Mountain Goat Tours looked excellent but my experience of going on the tour itself certainly wasn't. My wife and friends came to the Lake District for this tour but were so let down by it. We were packed like cattle onto a big 16 seater bus which arrived at Hill Top House after another bus, run by Mountain Goat Tours arrived with 16 Americans doing a group tour. As if that wasn't bad enough, there were also two other buses full of Japanese people also on a group tour which arrived at the same time. Hill Top is tiny and having so many people arrive at the same time was ludicrous. The staff at Hill Top didn't look very happy either as there seemed to be no advance planning to space this huge crowd out by Mountain Goat.It felt that they valued the big group tours over the independent tour that we were on. We were told that we had to wait until all of the group tours had been through and were just left to wander by ourselves about the garden. There were two Mountain Goat people with our tour though who did nothing. Eventually, we were allowed in but it was crammed and it really wasn't the experience that I was led to believe it was from the tour description and the reviews. It ruined our day and my wife and friends were very, very disappointed. I would not recommend Mountain Goat Tours.
