  • Chautauqua Park - Do you want to learn about the plants, animals and fungi of the Rocky Mountains while going on a scenic hike? This is your chance to get outside with an avid guide and forager with over a decade of experience teaching and guiding in the outdoors.

We will start with introductions at the trailhead, then proceed to hike and identify plants, animals, fungi and more as we go!

With an emphasis on edible, medicinal and poisonous plants, you will have my expertise as well as a library of regional guides to help you get to know the cast of characters that make up our local flora and fungi. My goal is for you to feel more empowered to connect with nature, find your own food and wildcraft your own medicine, or at the very least impress your friends on your next hike!

What to expect:
-An easy to moderate difficulty hike in a gorgeous setting with an experienced forager and guide.
-A focus on plant and fungi identification, uses and fun facts.
-Trailside nibbles. You may also eat and/or taking home wild edible plants and fungi we find where applicable.
-Use of full color guides to help you sleuth out plants and start building a mental profile
-walk away knowing many local edible plants

Explore the stunning and symbolic mountains of Boulder on foot.

Our journey will take us across a lush mountain plain, alongside a babbling brook, and upward through a diverse forest of pine and fir trees, pinpointing unique flora, mushrooms and animals as we wander. I’ll draw your attention to plants and mushrooms that can be eaten, used for health benefits, poisonous ones, and those with fascinating features and associated tales!

We will meet at the main trail intersection near the ranger cabin at Chautauqua park. I will be wearing a green hat with a cactus on it and have a black backpack. There are restrooms and water fountains here if you need them before we begin hiking. We will quickly go over a few things as a group.
