Listed among the seven Industrial Wonders of the World, the Hoover Dam is a remarkable gravity-arch concrete dam located in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, straddling the boundary of Arizona and Nevada. Accompanied by a guide, you’ll descend by elevator to the dam’s base while learning about this extraordinary feat of engineering. Once there, you’ll explore the powerplant, home to seventeen primary turbine-generator pairs that can produce up to 2,074 megawatts of hydroelectric energy.
Further enriching your experience, the Historic Era Railroad Museum is an essential visit for anyone curious about America’s heritage and the significant role railroads played in shaping the nation — and the Hoover Dam. Boulder City, originally a federal town built for housing Hoover Dam workers, is one of the places you will learn about. The railroads operated by both the U.S. Government and Six Companies served a critical function in the dam’s construction, running between the Boulder City Yard and the Hoover Dam. These pivotal rail systems were a crucial component of the dam’s creation, with their role extending into the 1960s.
