One of a kind mosaics - The tour guide was a real expert and the mosaics were beautiful. The tour operators don’t really explain until the day before that you need to take the 1pm train from Bologna on your own (they buy you tickets), and then walk about 12 minutes to the tour meeting point by 3pm. There is quite a lot of walking, so wear comfortable shoes. The tour lasts a few hours, then you must walk back to the train station and take the train back to Bologna yourself, arriving back about 8pm. It is not difficult, they just don’t really tell you until right before the day of the tour. I wish we would have taken an earlier train to Ravenna so we could have had lunch in the city before the 3pm tour—-Ravenna was a lovely city and would have been fun to explore even more.

An absolute must - An outstanding day out. The mosaics are jaw-dropping. Everything is close together so it’s easy to walk from place to place. An absolute must.

Tour to discover the mosaics - Very interesting tour, Ravenna is a wonderful city and its mosaics are famous all over the world and now I know why! Everything was organized in the best possible way and Francesca provided me with the details impeccably and with great availability and friendliness. I really recommend it to those who love art and not only!

Francesca was able to explain the message in the mosaics we were witnessing as well as the significance of the message. - The beauty of the mosaics and the excellent education I received. Francesca was exceptional at teaching the group about the masonry, architectural, and artistic cues to the era we were learning about.

The mosaics are... - The mosaics are wonderful, unmissable, and the guide was very good. But the travel information provided by Viator was very poor. They let us know only the day before that we should be at Bologna an hour earlier than advertised, that is after we had bought our train ticket to get there. Then they booked us on a return train that left at the same time that the tour ended 15 minutes walk away, so we could not possibly have caught it, and did not inform us correctly about when we should validate the tickets, so that we risked a fine. Happily we didn't get one, but no thanks to Viator. We rang them when we found they had stranded us in Ravenna but they had no help to offer. In summary, go to see the mosaics, but double and triple check any travel information you get from Viator.

Marvelous Mosaics tour -transportation hiccups - The tour of the mosaics was fabulous. The downside of this tour is the timing. It says it starts at 1300 but you have to catch the 1205 train to make your at 1400. The tour ran over, so you would have to leave early or run to make the designated return train The tour starts at the tourist office in Ravenna. You would do better to book your own train from Bologna to Ravenna and book the Ravenna mosaic tour on your own.

Not worth it - Our tour guide was very informative, but we couldn't understand him. He knew his history and went on and on and on. We were late a few times to get into the places that were expecting us.
