Appreciation for Quality of Food in Bologna - Our guide Benedetta was excellent. Our group learned so much about the food of Bologna. We gain such an appreciation for the quality and the history of food in Italy and specifically Bologna. I enthusiastically recommend this tour to anyone visiting Bologna.

Fabulous experience - Christina was our guide and her knowledge of her city is fantastic. The three places that she took us to sample the delights of Bologna was perfect. Highly recommended friendly knowledgeable and would definitely recommend to all English speakers to come and learn more about this wonderful city.

Good tour - Great guide, very knowledgeable and kind. Only critique is I would have liked to sample one more typical Bologna tastings such as mortadella, tortellini in brodo (it came in a cream sauce instead), or parmesan. The tastings we had were very good and we were full by the end.

Brilliant Bologna - An amazing taste of the produce that comes from Emilia Romana, beautiful balsamic, incredible tigelle with Ragu and to finish some of the best gelato in bologna. It's a perfect way to explore the city

A fun introduction to the city - Great tour! We got to walk around the city and learn done of it's history while trying various foods. We got to try tigelle with ragu, tortellini, parmigiano reggiano, and different types of aged balsamic (my favorite). The tour guide was friendly and helpful!

Our guide Bernadette was... - Our guide Bernadette was so knowledgeable and a delight. She truly knows this wonderful city. It was just a shame that we weren’t aware that several places were closed as it was a Sunday.

A great introduction to the food of Bologna - Matteo was our guide, and was fantastic! He was warm, personable, knowledgeable and energetic. He clearly loves what he does and it's infectious. The foods and drinks we consumed were wonderful - I especially appreciated Matteo's recommendations for other food purveyors and restaurants to try out. I look forward to making Matteo's recipe for bolognese sauce - it has a few twists not found in my current favorite recipe, that of Marcella Hazan. If I had to give one bit of constructive criticism, it'd be that Matteo's post-pranzo lecture on food production in Emilia-Romagna was a bit hard to focus on with full stomachs while sitting in a warm room - ?perhaps move to a cooler spot after lunch for the informational talk. Otherwise, a great experience and I would recommend Matteo and Taste Bologna to anyone.

Disappointing Focus on Coupons over Cuisine - As a seasoned food adventurer (Bangkok, Taipei, Seoul, Madrid, Oaxaca, etc), I love a food tour to introduce me to a new culture through their food! While I've consistently had amazing experiences (all 5-star!), this Bologna food tour was sadly unpleasant. Knowing the decision fatigue of choosing tours, especially in Italy's food capital, I felt compelled to share my experience to help fellow travelers. A Slow Start and Missed Opportunities The tour began at Piazza Maggiore with some historical tidbits, but a whole hour passed before our first bite! We then arrived at the vibrant Quadrilatero market, where we were offered Tigelle with ragu...as coupons for later! We were all hungry, so naturally, we opted to eat then. Next came the balsamic vinegar tasting. Unfortunately,as explained by our guide, because we chose to eat at the prior stop rather than take the coupons for later, another group jumped ahead. The wait wasn't filled with history or information, just awkward small talk. The tasting itself lacked detail – just age statements (one bottle even ran out!). Luckily, a fellow traveller had recently done a balsamic tour and shared their balsamic knowledge. Coupons & Confusion Following the vinegar, we received more coupons – this time for gelato! It felt like these "try-later" options detracted from the food tour experience of actually trying and learning about food! Finally, we reached a restaurant with a stunning terrace view of the Two Towers. Here, we had a small portion of lukewarm Tortellini with Parmesan cream. While the view was lovely, the food itself felt underwhelming, especially considering the lack of earlier tastings. Disorganized Distractions Overall, the focus on food history, interesting tips, and food exploration was minimal. The guide's information, though potentially interesting, felt disjointed and often strayed from food or the tour itself. Travel anecdotes can be charming, but here, the disorganization became distracting. Recommendation: Look Elsewhere Sadly, I can't recommend this tour. Perhaps it was an off day, but with so many other options, I wouldn't risk it. This was so poor that I felt I needed to ask for a partial refund, which was declined. This tour simply didn't deliver the delicious cultural immersion I crave. Food lovers, explore your options and find a tour that truly celebrates the food capital of Bologna.

Disappointing - We went to the food walking tour yesterday after 2 days in Bologna. For 55 euros, this tour does not deliver anything that can’t be done in your own time. Out of the four tastings that were promised, we completed two - 1) a balsamic vinegar tasting that can be completed for free if you visit the store 2) a ragu sandwich with a cheap glass of wine. We were then given a voucher to a take-away tortellini place and a gelato because we ‘ran out of time’. Our guide was super friendly and very passionate about the history of Bologna however, if you are wanting to do a food tour, we would highly recommend going elsewhere or just walking near mercato di mezzo as this is free and will give you the same experience.
