Additional Information

Perched at an astonishing 3856 meters above sea level, Titicaca claims the title of the world’s highest navigable lake. Its shores and diminutive islands are populated by the Aymara and Quechua people, descendants of ancient societies that resided in this region before the reign of the Incas. Inhabitants of these traditional villages primarily speak in their indigenous tongue, with Spanish being their second language. They continue to uphold time-old myths and beliefs to this day. One of the distinct features of Lake Titicaca is the presence of small floating islands, home to a tribe known as the Uros. Visitors to these islands are greeted with warm hospitality and even have the opportunity to experience a ride in their renowned reed boats.

Great way to see Lake Titicaca from La Paz - An outstanding day from Le Paz to Lake Titicaca by bus, and boat, with lunch included. We went by bus ( and boat) to Cococabana, a lively town, which is an important religion centre and from there by boat to the Isalnd of the Sun, an important Inca site. The walk on the island of the Sun does require a reasonable level of fitness as altitude can affect your breathing Suggest people take plenty of water and nibbles Our guide, Jaun, was knowledgabke yet low key, which I always prefer It would have been great to have had more information about the agenda for the day, for example we had no idea that we would not get back to LaPaz until 10 pm! Would highly recommend

Day trips - Very good, just wish I spent longer there next time and stayed in the little town. And some day trips out to the islands. Cheers

Be energized in the Sun Island - I booked the trip the last minute. They were very attentive and they picked me up from my hotel at the time they told me. The trip started from the bus terminal in La Paz. The bus ride was about 4 hrs, included the ferry cross. You have a guided visit through Copacabana beach in the Bolivian side. You also get to see lots of culture in town. Our Guide was very attentive and keen to explain everything surrounding the place. Then you have lunch in a nice town restaurant. Then the moment of the boat ride to the sun island comes, which is around an hour. It’s a bit chilly but worth it. The sights are espectacular and once you arrive to the island, be ready to walk at 4000mts above sea level, it will take your breath away! After a visit to the island, you can be amazed as well at the ‘Inca’s Garden’ to be ready for the boat ride back. The only thing I was crossing my fingers was to be able to see the sun set at 6:25. Unfortunately, your hauled back to the bus to leave at 6:30. To be honest, that’s the only thing I would’ve like to see before going back, but the tight busses schedule really took it away from me. It really bummed me down. I really don’t know when I’d be back, but it was a matter of 5 to 10 extra minutes. I still believe it could’ve have something extra for the price on a smaller transport. I have to say the guide was great, the sights amazing, but the cherry on top, the sunset, was not for me to see, hence the 4 starts. Despite all of this, i do recommend the trip, you’ll have a nice day of fun at the lake.
