Following the factory tour, you’ll visit the tea production museum to delve deeper into the history of tea in Mauritius.

Bois Chéri offers a stunning panoramic view of the island’s southern region. Today, Bois Chéri produces a variety of flavored teas, green teas, and herbal teas, which you can sample during your visit.

• Blue Bay Marine Park - Blue Bay Marine Park is a premier location to witness the vibrant marine life and enjoy snorkeling in Mauritius. At the Marine Park, you can choose to view the underwater world from a glass-bottom boat or dive in for a snorkeling adventure.

Snorkeling at the park is highly recommended, as the colorful marine life is truly breathtaking.

With an average depth of 5.5 meters and crystal-clear waters providing excellent visibility, the snorkeling conditions are perfect. You’ll have an excellent view of the reef, fish, and a wide variety of corals.

Blue Bay Marine Park is home to mangroves, algae, seagrasses, corals, and other marine life. It also hosts a diverse range of fish species, including Damselfish, Surgeonfish, Butterflyfish, juvenile Sailfin tangs, as well as tiny Pipefish and Trumpetfish.

Then, proceed to Mahebourg to explore the National History Museum of Mauritius, which offers a historical journey of the island dating back to the 18th century.

The Naval Museum of Mauritius showcases the remnants of the French colonial empire. The museum’s appeal lies not only in its exhibits but also in its historical architecture. It’s worth seeing both the building’s exterior and the various exhibitions. Additionally, you’ll find exquisite artifacts from numerous shipwrecks. The museum also displays bones of extinct species like the Giant Tortoises and the Dodo, providing evidence of their existence until a few hundred years ago.

• Mahebourg Waterfront - Afterward, visit the Mahebourg waterfront to learn about the fascinating culture and history of Mauritius. Situated in a traditional Mauritian village, the new Mahebourg Waterfront is perfect for a leisurely walk and a journey back in time, immersing yourself in local Mauritian history. You’ll have the opportunity to learn about the epic battle fought in this region. The memorial known as Bataille de le Passe honors the fighters who lost their lives in the battle. Initially focused on silks and textiles, the Mahebourg market now offers a wide variety of seashells. The market features typical products like vegetables and fruits for locals, as well as a diverse range of local handicrafts and souvenirs from the paradise island.

Don’t miss the food! At the Mahebourg Market, you’ll find a wide selection of dishes such as Briyani, Dholl Puri (lentil pancakes), Chinese Noodles, and the famous Gato Pima (split pea fritters). These make for a delicious street food experience, and don’t worry, your diet secrets are safe!

• Frederick Hendrick Museum - On the way, visit the Frederick Hendrick Museum. This historical site showcases the remnants of the first human settlement in Mauritius. Located at Old Grand Port, it bears witness to the Dutch and French colonial settlements on the southeast coast of Mauritius. The Dutch, the island’s first inhabitants, settled here to colonize the island. The museum is surrounded by a lush tropical garden and includes a visitor center with an exhibition of artifacts found during archaeological excavations since 1997, along with the remains of some ruins. These include building materials like stones, bricks, nails, military objects such as musket balls, cannonballs, flint stones, and many other intriguing items.

• Pointe Canon - Pointe Canon is a fascinating place to visit for a comprehensive view of the sites surrounding Mahebourg. You’ll see the majestic Lion Mountain overlooking the sugar cane fields, Mouchoir Rouge islet facing the waterfront, and Ile aux Aigrettes further north, a small protected island in the lagoon that is also a nature reserve.
