Additional Information

Bogotá is situated on a vast plateau formed by the eastern Andean mountains, located at an elevation of 2600 MAMSL. Despite most of the city being relatively flat, it borders an impressive mountain range to the east, colloquially known as the Cerros Orientales. The range spans the length of Bogotá’s territory from south to north.

These mountains offer a striking visual and significantly influence the city’s climate. Despite their constant presence, they are often overlooked by both residents and visitors of the city. Recently, after a concerted effort from residents of adjacent neighborhoods, the city authorities have opened up several hiking trails, offering people the opportunity to explore one of the city’s greatest natural assets.

  • The physical demands of this hike are medium-high. We recommend taking this tour two days after your arrival to Bogotá, especially if you are not accustomed to high altitudes.
  • Maximum altitude of this hike is 3100 MASL.
  • We recommend wearing comfortable clothes and hiking shoes.
  • We recommend taking a rain jacket (in case you experience a rainy day), sunscreen (in case it’s a sunny day), a hat or cap, and sunscreen.
  • Passport information is required for each person participating to ensure entrance to the hike.

La Chorrera Waterfall Hike - The tour to the waterfall was great. My sister and I wanted to do something a little more adventurous than just sight seeing around Bogota. The hike was definitely a challenge at first but once we mustered up our energy we were able to make it through. The scenery was beautiful and to see the farmers care for their livestock and crops was great. Our tour guide was Andrea. She is a wonderful person who made us feel like we went to the hike tour with a supportive friend. This tour is a must if you can physically handle the mountain area.
