- Haro - We will visit a spectacular subterranean winery beneath a centuries old village in the beautiful Ebro Valley of the La Rioja wine country. This winery will include a 1 hour tour and 3 subsequent tastings of their premium wines only available to clients who visit this special winery.
- Samaniego - Our next visits will be tasting experiences at boutique family-run wineries. We will have tastings of the most premium wines from their oldest vines. You will also get to sample their limited-quantity olive oil with fresh bread, cheese and chorizo.
- Laguardia - We will then head to the 10th century village of Laguardia for lunch at a local restaurant or pintxo/tapas bar depending on your preference and appetite. After lunch, we will take a leisurely stroll through the beautiful town pointing out sites of interest. There is also amazing photo opportunities of the entirety of the beautiful Ebro Valley.
- Bodegas Marques de Riscal - We will take you to see the Frank Gehry designed Hotel Marques de Riscal for photos and a walk through the vineyards.

Experience the essence of La Rioja, the apex of viniculture in Spain, through a journey from Bilbao that takes you through vineyards and wineries. You’ll be tasting the robust, berry-infused reds that have made Rioja a prime spot on any wine connoisseur’s map and appreciating the unique architectural designs of various estates, including one imagined by Frank Gehry. Accompany us on a guided walk through the ancient Basque town of Laguardia, ensconced within city walls, and soak in the incredible landscapes the region offers.
The tour includes a visit to three significant and iconic wineries that represent the peak of La Rioja’s winemaking prowess. These vineyards produce vintages that consistently rank within the top 100 Rioja wines, scoring over 90 on Robert Parker’s scale. Tasting sessions will include both red and white select wines, offering you a comprehensive understanding of the rich offerings of the La Rioja wine territory.

Fun Day Trip - The tour was amazing. Olaia was a terrific guide. She was knowledgeable and just great fun to hang with for the day. The winery tour itself was very educational and the three wine tastings were a lot of fun. Glad we were not driving. Lunch in the medieval town of LaGuardia was great. Wish we had an extra day for the Bilbao food and wine tour with Olaia. We highly recommend.

Great time spending on 3... - Great time spending on 3 wineries and stopped by two iconic buildings for photos. We also have time to walk around a medieval town which our guide gave us good introduction

Just the perfect Rioja tour - My partner and I booked a one-day Rioja tour from Bilbao, and it was absolutely perfect. Our guide, Irene, was not only super knowledgeable about Basque culture, but also engaging and fun. The group was small and friendly, with just six people, which made the experience feel personal. The wineries were fantastic—not commercial at all, but real hidden gems. The whole trip was comfortable, well-paced, and a perfect little getaway. Would definitely recommend to everyone coming to Bilbao!

Perfect day in Rioja - Our guide Irene picked us up when and where we expected, and we joined two other couples for the day. Irene is certainly one of the best guides we have had, anywhere. She was fun, entertaining, knowledgeable, a good communicator and very well organized. The itinerary was perfect. From the beautiful drive to the Ebro Valley, to three winery experiences, scenic overlooks, a stroll through LaGuardia, stops at the spectacular architectural highlights and a sleepy return to Bilbao after enjoying outstanding wine. I don’t know how the day could have been any better.

The whole day was amazing... - The whole day was amazing . We really enjoyed seeing the three different wineries and learning about their wine . Olila was a fantastic guide , she made the whole day so enjoyable .
Seeing the walled city was fun just a shame the weather was not so good or else the views would have been wonderful .

Friendly people, incredible wine - Zach gave us the most wonderful wine tour in Basque country! The wine tastings were exceptional, all of the local hosts were super friendly and told us interesting details about their wines. Zach filled us in on the history of the Basque culture and language (and wine-making too, of course). The scenery was beautiful and we had a lovely time. We definitely recommend this tour to everyone visiting Bilbao!

Amazing private luxury Rioja winery tour! - My husband and I just returned from an amazing trip to the Basque Country. The destination is unique in the world, and the food and wine alone make the trip worth taking.
We had a special interest in visiting the Rioja wine region after hearing about the world class wines that have been produced there for almost a thousand years!
Gratefully our research connected us with Zach and Irene, the owners of The Best of Basque luxury tour company. Their in-depth local knowledge and connections with the best and most unique wineries made for a really exceptional experience. With over 600 wineries in the region, you couldn't possibly do this on your own.
We were picked up at the hotel in one of their spotless luxury vans and spent the next several hours being immersed in the beauty and history of Basque Country.
After visiting three extraordinary wineries with personal tours and tastings, we were ready for lunch. Zach brought us to an excellent local restaurant where we experienced Basque cuisine, some of the best food in the world. We invited Zach to join us and thankfully he obliged. His passion for the food and ability to speak Spanish resulted in an unbelievable meal.
I strongly recommend touring with The Best of Basque. They will surpass your expectations!

Overpriced - While the tour guide was great and very knowledgeable, the price was too high for the experience. Only one of the three wineries offered a tour of the facility. The other two were tastings so it could have been done in a nice restaurant as opposed to a ride out to the country. I’ve been on other tours in Spain and we actually toured the wine making process at multiple wineries. It just makes it more meaningful to see it, discuss it, understand what goes into it. Especially at that price. We went to LaGuardia, which was beautiful, but the drinks there were not included. So the value for the money came up short compared to other experiences I’ve had in Spain and other countries.
