Tubing and Wildlife: A Costa Rican Adventure Beyond the Waves
When the waves take a break, the jungle calls. Join me as I explore the vibrant landscapes of Costa Rica on a tubing and wildlife tour that promises adventure and discovery. From the breathtaking Rio Celeste waterfall to the thrill of tubing down the river, this journey is a celebration of nature’s wonders.
A Journey Through the Jungle
The day began with a sense of anticipation as I joined the Rio Celeste Tubing tour. Jorge, our guide, picked us up right on time, and from the moment we met, it felt like reconnecting with an old friend. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he shared stories and insights that went beyond the typical tour script. As we drove through the lush landscapes, I couldn’t help but think of the waves I had chased in this region, and how this adventure was a different kind of thrill.
Our first stop was the Rio Celeste path, where Juan Carlos, our official guide, greeted us with a warm smile and a twinkle in his eye. The trek to the waterfall was a bit challenging, especially with the 250 steps, but Juan Carlos’s patience and humor made it enjoyable. He pointed out fascinating flora and fauna, and even when I felt a bit dehydrated, his knowledge and kindness were a welcome distraction. The waterfall, though not its usual blue due to the rainy season, was still a breathtaking sight, a reminder of nature’s raw beauty.
Tubing Down the Celeste
Next, we headed to the tubing adventure, a highlight I had been eagerly anticipating. The staff were professional and made sure we felt safe and prepared. As we floated down the river, the brisk water was refreshing, a stark contrast to the warm ocean waves I’m used to. The thrill of navigating the gentle rapids was exhilarating, and the laughter and camaraderie among the group added to the fun. It was a different kind of ride, but one that left me with a sense of freedom akin to catching the perfect wave.
After the tubing, we stopped at a local soda, Soda Y Rancho Doña Irma, for lunch. The meal was a delightful surprise, with a green salad, rice with chicken, and fries that were simply delicious. The passion fruit juice was a revelation, even for someone like me who usually sticks to coconut water. It was a perfect way to refuel before our next adventure.
Wildlife Wonders and Sunset Magic
Our final stop was the Springs Paradise eco park, where a young guide led us through a world teeming with life. His passion for the animals was evident, and he knew exactly where to find them. We were lucky enough to spot a rare tapir mother and her baby, and the guide helped us capture some incredible photos. His knowledge of the local flora and fauna was impressive, and it was a joy to learn from someone so dedicated to preserving this beautiful ecosystem.
As the day wound down, Jorge drove us back, pointing out wildlife and sharing stories that made the journey feel like an extension of the adventure. We saw wild howler monkeys and captured videos of their calls echoing through the trees. The drive back was capped off with a stunning sunset, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, a fitting end to a day filled with wonder and discovery.
This tour was a reminder of the diverse beauty that Costa Rica has to offer, from its vibrant wildlife to its welcoming people. It’s a place that continues to call to me, whether I’m riding its waves or exploring its jungles. Until the next adventure, pura vida!
