Highlights
  • 69-1630 Puako Beach Dr - Initially, we’ll convene at Puako Beach at the crack of dawn, 7am, for an introduction to your Guide, the Gear you’ll be using, the Fishing methods we’ll employ, and the breathtaking views of Puako Bay. We’ll embark on our Fishing adventure employing a blend of traditional Hawaiian, Alaskan, and contemporary fishing strategies. Novices will be taught the essentials of casting, detecting a nibble, and the thrill of catching a fish, while seasoned fishermen will dive straight into the action. The fishing excursion will conclude at 10am. Subsequently, your Guide will capture memorable Fish or Group Photographs. Should the fish be cooperative and you choose to keep one or a few for consumption, you have the option to prepare them at your accommodation or have them cooked at one of the two superb local eateries that offer this service. To wrap up your morning angling experience with Hawai’i Beach fishing, we’ll exchange photos and cheerful expressions.

Try your hand at hooking a BoneFish (O’io), BlueFin, Trevally (Omilu), In-Shore Snapper, or one of many other fish species that inhabit the stunning Coast of Hawai’i Island. You’ll have the chance to learn sustainable, contemporary, and traditional Hawai’ian fishing methods.

Immerse yourself in the deeply rooted culture and bond the Ancient Hawaiian people shared with the Ocean - you might even snag enough for a meal along the way!

So so - I feel like this is a little over played. I caught 3 aquarium fish. I’d be a little embarrassed if I took a photo of them. The sophisticated fishing technique consists of throwing a bobber with a piece of frozen shrimp. Gear consists of the cheapest longs drugs/KTA tackle section variety (one rod still had the zip tie on thr handle. The secret spot is the boat launch- since everywhere was blown out with wind. The first hour was just casting once, snagging, then re-tying everything since I’d fling a cast and the knots would come undone and lose the rig, or snag and break. It wasn’t my casting as the breaking spot was a pig tail where the connection was on the braided line (and I wasn’t tying the knots) they didn’t have backup bobbers since losing one has never happened before?). The backup reel was badly backlashed (not my doing) . I was advised if i really want good shore fishing I’d need a 4wd as the best spots were elsewhere. If you’ve never fished before & not experienced it might be ok for you.

He CANCELED 15 min before excursion! - The tour operator called my husband and I 15 minutes before the fishing excursion started saying he wouldn’t make it that morning because he had a newborn baby emergency. We drove over an hour from Hilo to get there and wasted our time and gas. As a mother, I understand emergencies come up. But you cannot call someone only a few minutes before to cancel. If you know you have a sick baby, you didn’t get any sleep the night before you text the tourists early on. We were celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary and this was our last day to do this. I have never been sea fishing and was really looking forward to it. I am now also having to file a claim with viator because he never put in the cancellation for the excursion so from our end, it just looks like a no show. He isn’t responding to viators calls either so we may have to eat the cost. Bad service, poor excuses and didn’t even announce himself when he called. I hope viator kicks him off their website and doesn’t partner with him anymore! I would NOT recommend this company to do your excursions with.
