- Kona Boys, Inc. - We would be thrilled to have you join our Midday Meander Kayak and Snorkel Adventure in Kealakekua Bay. Participants meet at our Kealakekua location, where we go over Marine Life Conservation Rules, provide a comprehensive orientation, and equip guests with snorkel gear. Guests then drive themselves to Kealakekua Bay, where their guide awaits with all the gear set up and ready. A brief safety talk is conducted before launching the kayaks from Napoopoo Pier. We paddle leisurely for a mile from the pier to the landing at Ka’awaloa, where Captain Cook’s Monument is located, taking time to spot Marine Mammals (dolphins and whales), enjoy the scenic beauty, and share the area’s fascinating history. Upon reaching the other side of the bay, we land the kayaks and prepare to snorkel along the Ka’awaloa coastline. Known for its stunning cliff that drops 250 feet with coral growing over 100 feet deep, the water is teeming with a variety of reef fish and marine life. After snorkeling, we relax and chat over a delicious snack provided by our partners at The Coffee Shack, then enjoy an easy paddle back across the bay.

Kayak across the Bay from the Pier at Napoo’poo landing to the protected shore of Ka’awaloa, where you can leisurely snorkel above stunning coral formations and a drop-off that descends nearly 250 feet.
Enjoy a light snack and some refreshments on shore while sharing stories of Captain Cook’s visits to the island and visiting his monument. The paddle back always seems to end too soon, and before you know it, the tour concludes back at the pier.

For our midday meander we meet at the Kona Boys shop where we will take care of orientations and get the crew geared up for a day on and in the water. Once checked in and outfitted guests drive themselves down to Kealakekua Bay where their guide will be waiting for them.

Informative, friendly fun - I planned to rent a kayak for a solo paddle across the bay but ended up taking the midday tour with guide Grant. It was very well worth it not only for the ability to land a kayak at the Cook Monument (only possible with a licensed guide) but especially for the discussion of the marine life and history of the region. Frank at the shop/office was exceptionally kind and helpful, and Grant deeply invested in learning about and sustaining Hawaiian culture. A thoroughly enjoyable excursion, highly recommended!

Kona Boys was Very Good. - Evan our guide was excellent. His knowledge of local history and the ocean was top notch.
The outing itself was very good, kayaking and snorkeling. I had never seen the variety of fish at any other snorkeling place.
I recommend having a towel to dry off at the outing.

Just awesome. - Everything was amazing. The scenery, the snorkeling, the snacks! Kealakekua bay is superb for snorkeling. We had a cool and well informed tour guide. Truly one of the best experiences we’ve had. Highly recommend.

Thanks Evan! - What a wonderful afternoon on the bay! Kona Boys was so professional from beginning to end and communicated well. Kayaking across the bay and snorkeling straight from the kayak was great, best snorkeling spot, and a great way to learn about the history of the bay. Evan did an excellent job talking story, and I came away with a solid understanding of Captain Cook and the Hawaiian people past and present.

Soul refreshing journey - Not knowing what to expect was a little anxiety producing, I need knot have feared, Kona Boys and especially Bamm had everything under control and my family was able to enjoy the trip because we felt safe. Bamm was very knowledgeable, engaging and especially attentive to one of our party who needed extra encouragement . The Kayak trip over to the snorkel destination was amazing, the snorkeling itself was other worldly. Skip the motor boats , kayaking is the best way to experience nature and have your soul refreshed! This was not the morning meander but the Morning Magic tour.

Friendly staff and we enjoyed our day it was worth it - We went on a kayaking and snorkeling tour with Grant, and it was absolutely fantastic! He was incredibly kind and made sure we were all having fun and feeling safe throughout the entire trip. He constantly checked in on everyone and created a really relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Grant also shared fascinating local stories and insights that truly enriched the experience. We absolutely loved every minute—thank you, Grant, for making it so memorable!

Awesome afternoon! - We booked the Midday Meander: Kealakekua Bay Kayak and Snorkel Tour for myself, husband, and 2 sons (11 years and 6 years). It was one of our favorite afternoons on Big Island! Evan, our tour guide, was absolutely amazing. He was kind, extremely knowledgeable about Big Island and the Kealakekua Bay, and wonderful with our boys. The snorkeling is incredible in Kealakekua Bay. We would highly recommend this tour!

Average and expensive 1-hour tour, manipulative owner - We went to the Kona Boys shed to get some equipment for snorkeling that was included in our hotel stay. When we were there we met the purported owner of Kona Boys who - instead of simply helping us with the snorkel gear - strong-armed us and guilted us into purchasing something from him. He was direct in telling us that he obviously couldn't make a living passing out snorkel gear to hotel people. (He probably does some version of this to everyone in our situation.) We didn't really want to continue having a huge discussion with him about his business model, so I diffused the situation by agreeing to pay for an expensive, 1-hour tour in a big canoe. He promised us that the tour would be really fun and that the guide was excellent. The only thing that was true about the tour was that the canoe was big. The guide was not excellent - he was fine. But he was super nice - in a very aloha kind of way. He told us many stories that we already knew because we had done the free cultural tour provided by the hotel. The canoe was very heavy, and we were asked to help carry it up and down the beach. The owner should be ashamed, and I wish the guide would learn to tell more interesting, less well known stories about the area. Kona Boys needs to hear this feedback.
