Highlights
  • Kealakekua Bay - Snorkel at Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park, the site of the Captain Cook Monument on The Big Island of Hawaii, in a small-group experience.

Kealakekua Bay is a protected marine sanctuary, boasting arguably the best snorkeling in the entire state of Hawaii. Due to the state’s environmental protections, Kealakekua Bay boasts an abundance of marine life that includes Nai’a (Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins), Caluiflower Coral, Yellow Tang fish, pencil urchin, and dozens of other marine species that call the bay home.

Your tour will include a maximim of 12 passengers, which is a more private experience than the “cattle boats” in Kona that carry 100 passengers or more. By being part of a smaller group, it’s quicker for the group to enter and exit the boat, which allows for more time snorkeling on the beautiful coral reef.

On our way to and from Kealakekua Bay, our Captain and crew will point out historically and culturally significant areas of the Kona coast. We often see Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins, and humpback whales (during the winter) on this tour!

Additional Information

We embark on a journey from Keauhou Harbor into the pristine azure seas. As we set sail, our crew highlights captivating sights along the historically rich Kona coastline. South Kona is home to an array of significant Hawaiian Heritage landmarks, brimming with mana (spiritual power). We remain in proximity to the Kona coast as we navigate southwards towards Kealakekua Bay, keeping a keen eye on noteworthy marine creatures.

We might pause to marvel at the Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins (Stenella longirostris) performing. These dolphins tend to rest near the shore during the day, and occasionally engage with the boat, surfing our bow wave and frolicking in our wake.

After a swift display by the Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins, Humpback whales, and other fascinating features we come across en route, we reach the globally renowned Kealakekua Bay, the location of Captain James Cook’s monument.

Following an hour and a half of snorkeling in Kealakekua Bay, we begin our return to the harbor.

Snorkeling in Kona - What a Great Excursion. Small group experience which is what we wanted. The captain and crew member were both knowledgeable about the area and safety conscious at all times. I won't hesitate to use this company again when in Kona.

We loved it all - Adam and Karla were absolutely amazing guides. I have never snorkeled before and now I am completely hooked. It was a great experience in the water, safe for kids, very well organized, and we learned so much about the island history in a very entertaining way. We are signing up for more. Thank you Karla and Adam.

An unbelievably wonderful experience with an amazing crew and staff. - The crew was fantastic and set us up for an amazing experience once we got into the water. We got there early in the morning and our tour was the first boat in the harbour so we had a lot of time before things started to get crowded. The water was pristine and teaming with all types of fish, some eel, a few small rays and a surprise visit from a pod of dolphins. We could have stayed in the water forever but once our time in the harbour was over, we set back home staying closer to shore with our captain stopping to point out historic and geologic sites. Everybody in my group agreed that we could not recommend this tour highly enough.
