Our lava tour is scheduled for 9/10/23!! This bespoke private journey commences at Hilo Port or any other location in Hilo. If you’re coming from Kona/Waikoloa, we can rendezvous at Target. We’ve structured our pricing on the basis of group size.
Experience the best sights of the Volcanoes National Park, Rainbow Falls, Japanese Gardens, and the famous black sand beach of Punalu’u with potential turtle sightings! We have additional optional stopovers listed below.
The advantage of private tours is that you can devote more time to sights you’re eager to see. If there are certain attractions you’re keen to explore, please reach out to me. I’m open to customising our tour to suit your preferences.
The optional frequently requested stopovers/sights are specified below. Depending on time availability, we can typically incorporate 1 to 4 of these optional places:
- Volcano Winery (typically around an hour, $10 and $20 flights) OR Hilo Coffee Farm (complimentary tastings)
- Orchid Farm or Big Island Candies
This tour runs for 7.5 hours, allowing ample time to visit all these locations. We assure you that we’ll get you back to the ship promptly.

Highly Recommend! - What a great tour! Rob took us all over the Volcano National Park and shared his love of the area and vast experience. We learned about the different types of lava (who knew there is more than 1 type) and got a feel for what it is like when the lava is flowing. He took tons of pictures for us so we could focus on having fun. If you are on the big island, book this tour!

Awesome private tour of Volcanoes National Park! - Decided to visit the Volcanoes National Park while visiting friends on Oahu. So glad we chose Big Island VIP! Jodi was very helpful in setting up our itinerary, took care of all the details. Rob was our tour guide...he was fantastic, very knowledgeable of geology, plant life, and Hawaiian history! Not only did we see the active Kilauea vent, but he was able to get us into the park before the crowds, felt like we had the park to ourselves! Being in a comfortable private luxury tour van was also great, no waiting for others to get from site to site. Ended the day at Punalu'u black sand beach, took pictures with Hawaiian sea turtles sunning themselves on the beach! And the best part of it all was the pictures that Rob took of us, which were included at no extra cost, linked to their website. Mahalo Jodi and Rob, we will see you again!

Awesome day full of adventures! - Jodi was a great tour guide! We saw so many sights and she answered all my kids (7 and 9) questions. The Volcano national park and the lava tube were some of our favorite sites. Also loved the rainbow falls. Glad we decided to do this.

Incredible all-day experience! - It was a very thorough, very detailed, very interactive tour that will take up most of your day but is an experience like no other! Rob knows the island inside and out and can answer anything and everything that comes to mind! He won't hesitate to roast you too so if you are hypersensitive in your feelers, don't be. Have you some fun!

Do this private tour - 5 couples just completed a cruise from Australia to the US. 8 ports of call, 8 tours (6 private). Easily this was the most professional, comfortable, and complete. Jodi did a wonderful job of moving us around the high spots, doing private talks at the volcano visitor center, taking us to rainbow falls, Kilauea, orchids, macadamia nuts, a city market, and turtles (2), in very nice van complete with snacks, water, and umbrellas.
Price was reasonable, you should use Jodi if you go to Hilo.

Private Group Tour from Cruise Port - Jodi was very communicative with exact details as to where to meet at the port. She arrived in her Mercedes van which accommodated all ten of us very comfortably; and had a microphone so we could all hear as she educated our group with extensive knowledge and love of both the south and north island. She personalized the tour, took lots of photos that she shared with us all and provided snacks & drinks. During the drive she showed a wonderful film of the eruption of the volcano. A delightful 5 hour tour and would highly recommend!

Absolutely the Best! - Jodi is an incredible tour guide! It's all in the details with Big Island VIP. She takes photos, knows so much history and takes the time to find out what the client is interested in doing. We only wish we would have booked her or her husband for a second day. We do a lot of tours and our entire group loved her. Thanks to Jodi we got to see some very, very special places from the last volcano explosion that not everyone gets to experience. If we ever get back to the Big Island we will call her or her husband for sure!
