- Sanchi Stupas - Guests will be collected from their hotel in Bhopal and transported to Sanchi, located in the Central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.
Explore the Great Stupa, a significant hemispherical structure housing the relics of the Buddha. Commissioned in the 3rd century B.C. by Emperor Ashoka, who turned to Buddhism after witnessing the devastating loss of life in his military campaigns, the Stupa was constructed to preserve and promote Buddhist teachings.
The impressive dome of the Stupa stands 54 feet tall and is encircled by a stone balustrade. Four decorative gateways, each facing a cardinal direction, provide access to the central dome. A prominent sandstone pillar, inscribed with Emperor Ashoka’s edict in ancient Brahmi script, is also located within the complex.
Following the Stupa visit, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant (at your own expense).
- Udayeshwara Temple - The next stop is the nearby Udayeshwara Temple, an 11th-century temple dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva. Constructed from sandstone, the temple is surrounded by a low compound wall adorned with intricate carvings. The main platform of the temple also features exquisite carvings. Two inscriptions on the temple document its construction during the reign of the Paramara King Udayaditya, between 1059 and 1080 A.D.
At the conclusion of the tour, guests will be driven back to Bhopal and returned to their hotel.
