Good way to see Los Angeles - Not having been to Los Angeles before we booked the 48hr pass to get our bearings and see what was what. The 3 main loops are very useful covering the Hollywood area, Downtown, and Santa Monica/Venice beach. We used Starline because they had the additional Downtown loop that Big Bus didn't provide, however, in comparison the buses were far more infrequent, of an inferior quality, and a bit patchy as to whether the headphones and commentary worked. The staff tended to be quite grumpy and unhelpful. The buses didn't run anywhere near the supposed timetable but you can keep track of them via the real-time app. Despite this it is a good way to see the various areas of LA and would therefore recommend. Just be aware customer service and provision is below some of the alternatives but you do get a better coverage of the whole LA area.

The bus’ top deck is very... - The bus’ top deck is very dirty, old and extremely uncomfortable. The windshield is filthy with limited visibility if you want a front row seat. There is hardly any legroom for adults, leaving your legs trapped and squeezed in between seats which are dated and out of shape. The headphones were useless because the radio was broken and we learned almost nothing about where we were or the history of what we were seeing. The routes were very limited. I’ve been on many city sightseeing buses throughout many cities including internationally, and the buses in Los Angeles were horrible, the worst bus experience by far. Pretty embarrassing. Tourists near me were also more than displeased.

Disappointing - Very disappointing. Several audio ports were not working on each of the buses we went on so we had to move seats. The first half of the red tour on the double decker bus was okay but deteriorated. The yellow tour was very long and it did not feel much information was given. The dialogue is pre-recorded and there are long gaps of no information or background. These gaps could have been filled in with general history of the area or anecdotes. In some places it was not clear what building was being talked about. It was the least enjoyable tour I have ever been on.

It wasn't a good experience. - Little information about the stops, what to see, what to do, that when the audio system worked, failed. Very few buses.

A poorly run tour, not worth the price - This was a bus ride. The recorded audio was terrible, hard to hear and would cut out often. There was no instructions as to how to find the bus you should take or where the stop is you would need to exit or transfer. If you don’t know the area, you don’t know when to get off the bus or what is there to see. We wanted to go to Santa Monica Pier and by the time we figured out how to get there, we had 45 minutes there. We were told to get on the next bus, which we did, but the next bus wasn’t the bus that went to Santa Monica Pier. We spent 3 hours driving around downtown LA. We didn’t know you had to look for the appropriate color for the bus, just that it was the next one. Unless you know how to ride these and don’t need any audio on what’s around, I don’t recommend this tour. It’s poorly run and too confusing and took the entire day

Don’t Choose Starline’s Hop-on Hop-off Buses - Their hop-on hop-off buses are a joke. They advertise them as an advantage over a guided tour because you can pick and choose which stops you want to get off the bus and explore. We got a 2-day pass. We had planned out the stops where we wanted to explore more each night. The first day we were able to get off the bus at only one of our planned stops because they didn’t have enough buses running on the routes. The second day we left on the first bus of the day at 9:30am thinking that would help get us to the two planned stops for that day. However, that was wishful thinking. We were not able to get to our second stop before it closed at 5pm. Besides the lack of enough buses to service their customers, one of the buses broke down. Heavy traffic was part of the problem. I don’t know if another company would have been better, but next time I’ll choose a guided tour.

Don’t use Starline for HoHo. - Absolutely the worst HoHo bus tour I have been on anywhere. We normally love HoHo tours but this was a total waste of money. We left the pick up point about 15 minutes late and our driver seemed intent on making up time by driving quickly and not even slowing down near the hop off points. As the audio wasn’t working properly we only found out where we were after we’d gone past it. I eventually had to scramble down from the top deck to ask the driver to stop at the next stop so we could get off. We then had to walk back to see the things we’d missed. The drivers of the Metro busses we ended up catching were friendlier and more informative than the Starline driver.

Waste of time and money. - This hop on hop off bus tour is a complete waste of time and money. Spent most of the time waiting for connection to other routes. Buses don't start on time and finish way to early to allow time to hop off and do some sightseeing . Audio guide on one bus only worked on one side. I would give this hop on hop off tour a big miss.
