Highlights
  • Haroun - A Shawarma Döner eatery that demonstrates the dual history of Berlin’s street food and its Turkish and Middle-Eastern immigrants.

  • Aleppo Supper Club - A friendly restaurant with Syrian and Levante cuisines, where we try a traditional Mezze dish.

  • Zielona Gora - One of the last remaining Berlin Squat Houses that has hosted political and educational events and activities, alongside live concerts, for nearly a decade.

  • Hannibal Restaurant - A cosy Berlin dive bar where we eat the classic meal of Flammkuchen and Berliner Weisse, and learn about what life was like in the Friedrichshain district under the rule of the DDR (East German government).

  • RAW-Gelände - This vibrant and alternative space has been an imperial rail repair yard, a Soviet factory, and a Deutsche Bahn warehouse over its long life.

Now, it’s home to art galleries, indie record companies, night clubs, beer gardens, a bouldering hall, and the largest indoor skate park in Berlin!

  • Berlin - Boxi Spatshop; Boxhagener Strasse 76, 10245
A small liquor store where we enjoy a popular German beer and learn about it’s origins.

Berliner Kindl (Light) Beer

  • Warschauer Strasse - Try the best and most famous currywurst in Berlin, where we discover how the iconic Berlin street food was created.

  • East Side Gallery - This historic open-air art gallery centres around the longest surviving stretch of the Berlin Wall. Standing at just over 1.3 miles from end to end, each individual segment is coated in a colourful and often politically-themed mural that has been in place for over twenty years.

  • Warschauer Strasse - Schnitzel Burger + Berliner Pilsner Beer at our final stop, a compact Schnitzel Burger restaurant/club, where we discuss what life was like towards the end in East Berlin and the events leading to the fall of the Berlin Wall.

  • Friedrichshain - From Nov 16 to Dec 22, in addition to our regular route, the Berlin Christmas Special brings you through one of the city’s famous Weihnachts (Christmas) Markets. The Historic Friedrichshain Christmas Market is a traditional event, with handcrafted curiosities, acrobatic entertainers, and wooden fairground rides. As we explore, we’ll learn about the Christmas Market’s fascinating past, from its origins to its modern-day customs, while indulging in a delicious seasonal glass of mulled wine, mulled beer, or eierlikör (eggnog).

Fabulous guide and delicious itinerary - Delightful introduction to German and Berlin classics and context for why the food scene is the way it is, along with intro to Friedrichshain, a great neighborhood. With just the two of us on the tour Clara, our guide, did an amazing job keeping the vibe tailored. So impressed by her, and a delightful way to spend an afternoon. The shawarma at Haroun is the stuff dreams are made of; I will be thinking about it for awhile to come. Set a great tone for our trip!

A must do activity - Very well organised from start to finish with interesting dialogue on an area of Berlin not normally visited. The food experience added another dimension across a variety of tastes. The only downside is that it is not cheap.

Lotsa walking, too much talking. - A pleasant, but not overly interesting sampling of less-than-special foods. Too much talking, too much walking. Nice guide tries hard.
