Fun and food on our first day in Berlin - A small group of us (family), met in Berlin for the marathon (me running, and the rest to support). We booked this tour based on reviews and the neighborhood that my brother’s family was staying in. Tiago met us and we went on an easy stroll, stopping at several places to taste and try local dishes. The tasting and walking was an easy pace, Tiago explained and shared many interesting facts on the architecture, the history, the food and the people of Berlin. We enjoyed this so much, we were all talking about it for the rest of the day. Highly recommend this tour if you have a few hours in the morning.

Classic and Trendy food with a mix of history and character of the Prenzlauer Berg neighborhood. - We picked this tour over others perhaps closer to central Berlin, because we were staying in Prenzlauer Berg. The expectation, because Prenzlauer Berg is an artsy/trendy neighborhood with ties still to the prior generation, is that this tour would highlight both classic food plus new and inventive cuisine. I understand the tour guides have some flexibility in where to go, so your mileage may vary. We started with a KetWurst, a portmanteau of the words Ketchup and Wurst. Interestingly, the presentation is a wurst in a hollowed out bun, not sliced, and loaded with Ketchup. Good bun too. Next was Bekerei, a Portuguese bakery (from where our tour guide, Tiago, orginates!), where we enjoyed some classic pastries (filled doughnuts, cheesecake, etc.) and some with a Portuguese flair. Happies came next, a place serving Bao (Chinese style buns) but with creative fillings and sauces. Very attractive presentations too. We followed that up with a falafel wrap at Habba Habba (Palestinian cuisine), very fresh and delicious with the wrap nicely crisped. We ended with our choice of cinnamon roll or ice cream, and we all voted unanimously for ice cream at the Hokey Pokey. The Hokey Pokey has several locations, this one was on Oderberger Strasse (next to our apartment!). They have inventive flavors of ice cream, such as my selection of poppy seed/marzipan flavored ice cream. I may have missed a stop or two, but hopefully this gives you the gist of the tour. We felt quite full afterwards so you needn't worry about getting enough food. During our walk through the neighborhood, Tiago pointed out several locations and topics of both historical and current events. Among them were the KulturBrauwerei, a huge facility once devoted to beer making (must have made a lot!) now it's a venue for shopping and activities, kind of like Industry City in NYC, if that helps. We stopped at the Gethsemanekirche, a Protestant church with a strong tradition of advocacy for political prisoners. Also we learned the meaning of the small brass plaques you might see on the sidewalk outside some buildings, they contain the name of people persecuted by the Nazis and their eventual fate (e.g. escape or concentration camp). The tour was an excellent mix of cuisine, history, and the possibilities for the near future.

Food and fun! - Dimitrios was our guide and met us, and quickly explained a bit about the tour and in no time we were sampling some great foods. His curated tour started with our introduction to Ketwurst and a side order of history. Throughout our tour, Dimitrios gave us ample information on the neighborhoods as well ambled through them as well as the historical significance of many locations. The steamed buns at häppies, were not to be missed and Dimitrios even provided an addition virtually map of his other spots in the city.

Great way to see Prenzlauer Berg in Berlin - We did the vegan walking tour in Berlin. Our tour guide, Simon, shared a lot of history and anecdotes about the area as well as the food. He was great at answering questions and customizing certain items (since we were the only family on the tour). This was a really interesting experience, and the food was delicious. We were otherwise staying in Mitte and would not have had reason to go to Prenzlauer Berg, and it was great to see this charming neighborhood in a local way.

Delicious in Deutschland - We had a wonderful time walking around Berlin with our guide Tiago. The food was delicious, no matter where we went, especially the buns at häppies. Tiago supplied an overview of the history of neighborhoods and the food. He happily answered any of our questions about Berlin as well, which helped us get our bearings.

Best tour guide!! - I have to say Berlin is not the foodie capital of the world- it has other highlights- but this was still one of my favourite food tours, and I’ve been on a lot, because of our guide Dimitrous… super lovely, lots of great info (he’s doing his masters in archaeology) and just the best person spend an afternoon wandering around Prenzlauerberg! Thanks so much for making our afternoon!!
