A Day of Discovery: From Castles to Coastlines

Our adventure began in the charming town of Benalmádena, a place that effortlessly combines nature, history, and breathtaking views. As a family travel writer, I am always on the lookout for experiences that are both educational and entertaining for my children. This trip promised to be just that, and it did not disappoint.

Our first stop was the Castillo Monumento Colomares, a monument dedicated to Christopher Columbus. The castle’s neo-Mudejar architecture was like something out of a fairy tale, and my children were captivated by its intricate designs and the stories of exploration and discovery. The views from the castle were nothing short of spectacular, offering a panoramic vista of the Costa del Sol that left us all in awe.

After our castle adventure, we made our way to the Stupa of Enlightenment in Benalmádena. This Buddhist temple, the largest in the West, provided a serene contrast to the castle’s grandeur. It was a wonderful opportunity to introduce my children to different cultures and spiritual practices, and the peaceful atmosphere was a welcome respite.

Exploring the White Village of Mijas

Our journey continued to the picturesque village of Mijas, nestled on the mountainside. Known for its white-washed buildings and narrow, cobbled alleys, Mijas is a place where time seems to stand still. We spent a delightful hour wandering through its charming streets, discovering hidden corners and enjoying the stunning views from the village’s viewpoint.

Mijas offered a perfect blend of relaxation and exploration. My children loved the freedom to roam and discover, and I appreciated the opportunity to soak in the village’s unique atmosphere. The village’s charm and beauty made it a highlight of our trip, and it’s a place I would love to return to.

Luxury and Glamour in Puerto Banus and Marbella

Our next stop was Puerto Banus, a world-renowned luxury port. The contrast between the quaint village of Mijas and the opulence of Puerto Banus was striking. My children were wide-eyed at the sight of the stunning yachts and high-end boutiques, and it was a fun experience to explore this glamorous side of the Costa del Sol.

Finally, we arrived in Marbella, a city that perfectly blends history and modernity. We strolled through its old town, with its cobblestone streets and flower-filled squares, and enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere. Marbella’s Golden Mile, with its luxurious shops and restaurants, was a fitting end to our day of exploration.

Throughout the trip, our guide was excellent, providing fascinating insights into each destination. The tour was well-organized, with just the right amount of time at each stop to explore and take photos. It was a day filled with discovery, learning, and fun, and one that I would highly recommend to any family looking to experience the best of the Costa del Sol.
