Highlights
  • Belmonte de Tajo - We will start our wonderful wine experience by visiting one of the vineyards belonging to the winery where we will meet the winemaker. You will experience first-hand how vines are grown (the grape-growing techniques) and the specificities of the climate and the terroir and how they affect the grape varieties growing in the area. A really interesting and informative explanation followed by a short walk in the vineyard.

We will then head to the winery (5 minutes away) in order to visit the premises and get useful insights about the winemaking process for each of the wines: the alcoholic fermentation, the ageing system and their classification in Spain according to the wine region and the ageing characteristics. This is a family-owned winery; you will meet and be greeted by members of the family, all very genuine and passionate about what they do!

Here we will do the first wine tasting, outdoors, weather permitting, and you will taste 3 fabulous wines with tapas.

  • Colmenar de Oreja - We will then head to the second winery, where we will discover the history of an ancient winemaking style, based on fermenting the wines in clay pots.

After this, you will enjoy a wonderful wine tasting of 3 wines paired with tapas. You will obtain valuable tips about how to taste the wines, as well as some wine tasting descriptors to enjoy the wine tasting experience to the fullest!

We only do very small groups to ensure the genuineness of the experience, a high-quality standard and a really personalized tour. This will be a memorable wine experience for you to remember as a highlight from your trip to Spain as our customers have already rated us!

Fantastic Experience - Jimena was a very good guide. She was knowledgeable about wines and informed us of many aspects of Spanish wine. She asked us our thoughts about wines before and after we tasted to get a sense of what we would like. The 2 wineries were very different but both were interesting to learn about. All the wines were good quality.

Great for experiencing Madrid local wines - This was my first time visiting bodegas (wineries) and it was a very nice experience. We visited a traditional bodega and a more modern one. Both with very good wines. Been living in Madrid for a couple of years and really recommend it if you are visiting and want to get a sense of local wines.

Pleasant wine tasting experience - Luckily, we got a private wine testing tour with Jimena as our guide just for two of us(!) to visit a very nice and friendly family owned winery near Madrid on a beautiful sunny day in September 2019. Pickup/drop off locations were very close to our hotel. Jimena was waiting for us, so we hoped into her car and headed to the winery. During the ride Jimena told us about wine making in general, nuances of making wine in Spains, art of wine drinking, so when it was time for us to actually taste the wine, we knew how to do it right. The family that owns the winery was very friendly, too, and also shared lots of interesting details about wines they make and wine making processes. They also prepared a few plates of different tasty tapas for us to complement the wines we were tasting. We liked all the wines we tasted, so we ended up buying a bottle of our favorite one (the Ester) to bring home. We had a really good time there, cheerful and colorful, as the wines we tasted. Thanks so much, Jimena, for the wonderful wine tasting tour! Salute!!!

The best wine tasting I have ever experienced! - First, let me say that Jimena was very pleasant with arranging a tour for my large group. She was very patient and friendly throughout the entire booking process. The wine tour was nothing short of amazing. It was beyond what I imagined. The transportation was in luxury style. We even had a chance to actually view a vineyard and eat grapes right off the vine! Our guide, Esther, was the best. She was such a pleasure to be around. She went above and beyond during our tour, capturing pictures and sending them to us right away. The wines were amazing, and the taps were delicious. The wineries were so unique and fun to learn about. I would definitely recommend anyone visiting Madrid to book Colorful Wines. It was the highlight of my vacation.

A fun tour with a friendly and knowledgeable guide - Jimena Cristo Bujanda is a professional sommelier with years of experience in the wine business. My son, my friend, and I booked a tour with Jimena in June 2019. The confirmation email sent by the third-party site told us to meet Jimena in front of Restaurante Comala on Plaza de la Lealtad at a chosen time in the morning. It wasn't clear from the automated email if we should be meeting her in front of the restaurant or inside, so we emailed her. She responded promptly and told us to meet her in front of the restaurant and gave us a Google Maps link to where the restaurant was. The tour group was small -- it was just the three of us! -- which was great. She and the driver Ángel met us in a car and drove to two wineries south of Madrid. As a professional sommelier, Jimena has relationships with many local wineries, and from her interactions with the winemakers in the two places we visited, it's pretty clear they have known each other for many years. The first winery was in a small town known for its clay pots. Although the town no longer produces these pots, the winemaker, Antonio, still ages certain wines in them, while others age in traditional oak. His winery, a former monastery, was a small family-run business, and his sons ran up sales and greeted guests in the front of the bodega while we were there. Antonio spoke about his winemaking process and gave us a tour of his wine cave. Afterwards, we were treated to three of his wines and a delicious spread of bread, cheese, and cured Spanish meats. Our second stop was at an organic winery where they are still experimenting with various ways protecting the vines from pest damage. In fact, before stopping at the winery, Jimena and Ángel brought us to one of their fields and showed us the vines where they were running the experiments. The winemaker, Andrés, was unfortunately called away for an emergency, but we spent some time with his wife who seemed very warm and genuinely cared about showing us hospitality at the winery. Of course, we drank three more wines and ate more food. The winery also kept a few animals, and in fact, a baby goat had been born that morning. It was an added bonus to our trip to see the newborn kid. Although our tour was a half day, it felt as though time flew. Jimena and Ángel were wonderful hosts, and although Jimena knew a lot about wine, winemaking, and the local terroir, she also facilitated conversations between us and the winemakers, who barely spoke English. Jimena also speaks French, having lived in France for eight years. Overall, I would happily recommend Colorful Wines to anyone interested in touring Spain's wine regions. Although we only took a short day trip out of Madrid, you can also arrange tours with her to Rioja or a full-day trip around Madrid's wineries.

Quaint wine tasting tour - Really enjoyed both wineries. The smaller group made this a more intimate experience. We were able to converse with the owner and other tour members in a relaxed friendly environment. Vineyard tour by owner/proprietor was awesome. Guide was very knowledgeable and helpful in getting purchased wine shipped back to the US. Would definitely do this again.

Personalized, Unique & Fun Experience - On our recent trip to Madrid, 3 friends and I booked a 1/2 day wine tour with Colorful Wines. Jimena, our hostess, was awesome! She gave great commentary throughout our tour, was happy to answer all our questions, and was very personable and kind. We visited 2 smaller wineries not far outside Madrid. We never would have found these hidden gems without this tour. Spending time at the smaller wineries with the families that have owned and run them for generations is an experience we will never forget! My friends and I would highly recommend this tour with Colorful Wines! We loved everything about the experience. Thank you, Jimena!
