A Journey Through Time: Xunantunich Mayan Ruins

The sun was just beginning to rise as we set off from Placencia, Belize, with the promise of a day filled with adventure and discovery. Our guide, Israel, was a fountain of knowledge, sharing stories of the ancient Maya civilization as we made our way to the Xunantunich Mayan Ruins. The anticipation was palpable as we approached the site, the towering El Castillo pyramid looming in the distance.

As a surfer, I’m used to reading the waves and understanding the ocean’s moods, but standing at the base of this ancient structure, I felt a different kind of awe. The climb to the top was a bit challenging, with uneven steps and no railings, but the view from the summit was worth every careful step. The lush Belizean jungle stretched out as far as the eye could see, a sea of green that seemed to go on forever.
