In the meantime, he will be preparing your tubes and other gears until you are finished. You’ll then begin your 15 minute educational hike through the lush rain forest trails with your guide leading the way. After this trek, you’ll be at the entrance of the “Mayan Under World”; the cave. Feel free to take a dip in the crystal clear water with your guide to cool down before you begin!
Sit back and relax for the next hour and a half as your guide pulls you through the cave; pointing out pristine crystals and other natural formations along the way. Become submerged in ancient Mayan history and one of a kind grandeur. Take your cameras so that you can photograph the beauty of the large “cenote” or sinkhole and waterfall inside the cave system. Upon exiting the cave you will float on the open river for at least 25 minutes before arriving at the start/end point again.
  • Altun Ha - The Ancient Mayan city of Altun Ha is considered as one of Belize’s most popular Mayan cities, internationally known for being the home of the largest piece of ‘jade’ carving ever discovered in the Mayan world. With earliest evidences of settlement dating back to 200 B.C, it boast 2 large plazas that host the discovery of rich tombs which indicates that the ruling elite enjoyed access to substantial amounts of exotic goods. And although no specific cause was found to explain the decline of Altun Ha, it is believed to began around 900 A.D.

Better than the cruise tours! - Jeff was an amazing guide and an exceptional host. We had a great time and saw howler monkeys on river while cave tubing. We got in before the big cruise tours and had a personalized experience. Thank you Jeff!

Cave Exploration - Fred was our tour guide. When we booked we didn’t realize that it would be just my wife and myself. It worked out great and he was friendly, professional and very accommodating. Loved the cave experience. The ruins provided some insight into ancient Mayan civilization and Fred was very knowledgeable. The lunch was simple and delicious.

Beautiful, Perfect, Fullfilling - This was the highlight of my trip! Our guide, Percy, picked us up at our hotel near Belize City early in the morning. He was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and personable. We learned a lot about the history and culture of the country from him as we drove between sites. *This review is a little long so if you want a quick review here it is: do this trip. The cave tubing is more incredible than you can imagine, Altun Ha lets you exist in the same space as the ancient Mayans, and Belizean lunch is some of the best food you will have. The guides are wonderful humans you will enjoy spending the day with. It is best to go on a day when there aren't cruises docked (usually Friday-Monday) so the locations will be quieter and less packed.* We started our day cave tubing. Our guide for tubing was Jeff and he did a phenomenal job. He grew in a village near the caves and knew the caves like the back of his hand. If you aren't sure about cave tubing, I'd say GO FOR IT! It's not an adrenaline rush like ziplining but it is a total feast for the eyes and senses. We took an easy 1.2 mile hike to the entrance of the cave. The water is crystal clear; we could see young rainbow trout in a stream as we crossed it. The caves are incredible. We were the first ones in so it was serene. You could hear each drop of water as it feel from the ceiling to the water below. If you have time to do only one thing in Belize, I recommend cave tubing; our guide did say it's best to go Friday-Monday when cruises aren't docked as it's quieter. For our next stop, Percy arranged for us to visit the Howler Monkey Sanctuary as an add-on (for an additional charge). We were able to meet a family of Howler monkeys (including two small babies) up close in their natural habitat. It was a great bonus stop. Our last stop was at Altun Ha. Percy was our guide here. He shared the history of the site with us then gave us time to explore and climb on our own. The site was really quiet (it was a Sunday afternoon) so it felt like we were the only people there. There are several temples excavated that you can climb up; just remember you also have to climb down. Much like cave tubing, it's hard to describe what you'll see and feel here. You have to experience it for yourself. There are vendors just outside the entrance with really nice, handmade souvenirs so bring money or a credit card. This was the best place we visited for souvenirs. We got a Belizean lunch with stewed chicken. It was delicious! It came with stewed chicken, rice, plantain, and beans. It was a great way to replenish all the calories we burned climbing the ruins.

Super personable experience - I really enjoyed this excursion because it was just my party and the tour guide not all the extra people like you’d normally get on an excursion. We had Norman for our tour guide he told us lots about Belize and the places we toured. He went out of his way to make sure we had a great time. You get to climb up on the ruins to get a nice view of everything surrounding you. They have handrails which is nice. The cave tubing was very relaxing. We hiked 20ish min through the jungle where Norman shared lots with us about the trees and animals we saw. Then we made it to the tubing spot where we just sat in tubes and floated for about an hour and a half. I would def requesting Norman for your tour if you can. We left feeling like we had made a new friend!

The tour outdid itself - This tour was spectacular! The best thing about this tour, other than the amazing wonders it had to offer, was the customer service. Our tour guide Joel was extremely educated and shared knowledge hidden in the depths of the country's history. Not to mention, he was a humorous guy, which made our tour 10x better. We felt safe, welcomed, and in good hands while we enjoyed the entire package. Hope to do it again soon!

Hold onto your seat. It's going to be a busy day. - Jam-packed day. This tour was great, however, hold onto your seat. In order to do both the Cave Tubing and Altun Ha Mayan Temples you don't have much time to relax. No fault to the excursion or our tour guide (they were great), you are just constantly on the move in order to get everything in. For example you eat lunch in the car while they are flying to get you to the next location. If my wife or I were to visit Belize again we would just select one or the other activities. On a positive note, by the time we visited the Altun Ha Mayan temples in the afternoon all the morning cruise tours were gone. We pretty much had the place to ourselves.

Owner switched tours on me without warning or consent - I had arranged with the owner, Percy, to be picked up at my resort for a day trip to Altun Ha and cave kayaking. I would be accompanying some people being picked up from a cruise ship, but since Altun Ha and the caves were in opposite directions, I would be picked up first, then the others, and we would go first to the cave. The cave kayaking at Nohoch Che'en was great! Our driver and guide, Jeff Dawson, was pleasant, personable, and professional. It was AFTER experiencing the cave, and I mentioned the ruins, that Jeff informed me that the other people had signed on to go to the howler monkey sanctuary, and we were not going to Altun Ha! He seemed genuinely surprised that I had expected otherwise. Owner Percy did not care to address this, other than to claim it was an "honest mistake" on his part ... despite all the repetitions of Altun Ha and ruins, and his explanation regarding pickup arrangements that Altun Ha was in the opposite direction from the caves, necessitating that I be picked up before the cruise vacationers, rather than after. Essentially, too bad, I asked for A and was given B, there's nothing he could do about it, and no compensation was forthcoming. Horse manure!

Company lies - Company canceled trip at the very moment we were scheduled for pickup claiming the caves were dangerous and closed. Luckily we found a travel agent at our hotel that knew people that worked at the caves and turns out it was still open and we went with another company. It was absolutely not dangerous as a matter of fact it was extremely tame. I completely understand canceling but why lie? And why couldn’t they still come get us and do the rest of the tour with the ruins half? Good customer service wouldn’t be just cancel even if this was the case, I would expect someone to contact me and see if there was something they could do with us instead of just leaving us stranded for the day.
