Belfast politics - complex stuff! - A very informative tour, led by two local, knowledgeable and passionate guides. There's very little walking involved, but a lot of standing, so possibly not suitable for all.

It’s an eye opener! - It was very interesting listening to 2 sides of the story. We don’t a lot and have some interesting facts I would recommend this tour.

Highly recommend - Really fascinating tour but not for the faint hearted - I took our 15 year old son - long for him at times but he was fine and he will never forget the life lessons it will have taught him - right from the horse’s mouth.. Hopefully these sort of tours will teach next generations.

Very informative and interesting. - Very informative....relaxed presentation. All questions were answered extremely well. Learned a lot about this area of Belfast. I now understand the conflict better. I also liked the fact that the experience made me aware of present day life in this area of Belfast and that everyday between 6 am and 7pm it's a normal working area of the city. It was evident from the tour guides that there is still unresolved issues. There seems to be more hope for the future on the Republican side.

Powerful - Powerful yet saddening. Both guides were very authentic. Felt like photos weren’t appropriate. But the images seen were provoking.

Amazing conflicting tour review. . - Extremely informative and fascinating to get the conflicting opinions and we loved the first guide filling in the historical background from the last few centuries to contextualise the troubles and how the troubles began. Brilliant. Shocking to learn really that although the peace agreement is in place that the wall and divide remains to this day. It’s a long tour it lasted 3 1/2 hours in the end and no toilet stop apparent although am sure one could have been found. Suggest you take a snack with you.
Brilliant tour though. A real thought provoking experience.

Very though provoking - The tour is hard to put in words as it was truly very interesting on both sides but very sad, upsetting and in ways blew my mind. It’s a very difficult subject and still very hard to take it all in. I do feel everyone should do the tour purely to see and understand how things have not changed despite what the media portray and they is so much more to be done. In 2025 it is shocking but fascinating and should be openly honest by the media and government about what is really going on.

Fascinating! Recommended - Great history lesson.
Special to hear about The Troubles on the actual streets, told by people who lived through it.

Robert is the best in the West! - This was a great experience and one that both of us had been looking forward to, as we have both studied the history of the troubles and were keen to visit West Belfast to see important sites, murals, etc. with locals who were involved in the conflict. Should say that based on the first half, this would have been 5/5, but we felt the second half lacked the qualities of the tour on the Falls segment.
Robert did an incredible job of condensing about 500 years of history into the first 10 minutes or so, giving the context necessary for presenting the republican position and the social conditions of the 1960s. He also linked key sites along the route with his own experiences, past and present, from political prisoner to community organiser. I thought he was also very charitable to the unionist community in his presentation of the conflict. He also explained a lot about his ongoing work post-peace process, and his explanation presented routes forward that chime with non-sectarian political movements that existed before the troubles. I should stress that this was interesting to hear because his own story outlined a political history which is often overlooked or misrepresented.
The second half, not so much. It was interesting to see the Shankill Road area and how its people choose to express their ideas, but our guide was not as enlightening as his republican counterpart. Our guide didn’t make clear whether he had been a member of a proscribed paramilitary organisation himself, whether he had been a soldier in the British army or any other role he played in the conflict. This gave his narrative a slightly nebulous quality that seemed a little detached from the details of the conflict. He seemed both stuck with loyalist tropes and talking points, while pointing to hyper-specific political events (such as Sinn Féin’s Easter commemoration event this past weekend) which muddied the waters and could have seemed confusing or irrelevant to those who are not educated on the conflict or its afterlife. It would have been good to hear some of the history of the Protestant community in Ulster and Belfast specifically, its culture and its traditions, perhaps some examples of the role this played throughout the troubles and in the present. This was not the case, and we were disappointed to hear the same talking points repeated time and again. In short: there wasn’t really anything in this segment that we hadn’t heard before in some form.
To reiterate, this was so close to being 5/5 based on the first half! Our overwhelming feelings were positive!

Great experience - Overall, I really enjoyed both aspects of the tour.
I feel this tour is definitely for those who are interested in learning more about the troubles, those who don’t know much about it should maybe steer clear. It can very much feel like each tour guides personal opinion (which is the point of the tour being conflicting stories!!) but you should take from it what you can in order to help you form your own opinion on things.
Both guides were friendly and able to answer/encouraged questions. Sometimes you found yourself at the edge of busy roads, just the nature of where the murals are and where the stories took place - but definitely room for guides to have microphones to allow people to hear a bit better!
