Additional Information

Jiankou Great Wall is situated in Badaohe village, northwest of Huairou County in Beijing, roughly 30 kilometers from Huairou County Town. The Wall spans from the northern region at Badaohe to the southern area near Bohai Town. It seamlessly connects with the eastern edge of Mutianyu Great Wall and extends to the Dazhenyu Great Wall on its western end. Due to the tall and steep terrain, this stretch is notably sinuous and complex. The name ‘Jiankou’ translates to ‘Arrow Knot’ in English, reflecting the mountain’s resemblances to an arrow with the sunken ridge resembling its notch. The hiking excursion is an exclusive group event guided by a seasoned trekking expert, promising an engaging adventure on the Great Wall.

To ensure a more tranquil experience, it’s advised to avoid weekends and holidays when scheduling your visit, as the Mutianyu Great Wall tends to be particularly crowded.

Amazing experience! - I had an amazing experience taking this private hiking tour. I didn't want to go only to the typical tourist spots. So this tour is the perfect combination because you start in the most pristine zone of Jiankou and end up in Mutianyu, where you can take the cable car to go down. I was a bit anxious about the intensity of the hike, but I can confirm that it is completely doable. The first section of Jiankou was my favourite part; we really had the Wall for ourselves. My guide, Peter, was funny and experienced and since I was travelling by myself, he was very kind, offering to take some pictures. Worth every single penny.

Must do tour! - We were picked up in a beautiful electric vehicle. Peter the guide was conversant in English and Chinese, talked about the history of the Great Wall and life in China in general. It was a 2hrs ride to the start of the trek. It’s off the usual route so we had to hike through a forested area. First 40mins was tough as we hiked up the side of the steep mountain, fortunately hiking poles were provided. Peter was patient and attentive stopping for short breaks on the ascent. Once we reached the top there’s a makeshift ladder to climb, felt like the mongols invading. Million dollar view at the top and we were the only peeps there. The “wild” side of the Great Wall is simply magnificent, desolate and beautiful. Slowly trek across the wild side to civilization. At one point we had to climb up the side of the wall to join the tourist part of the wall. That’s when it becomes a drag going up and down stairs together with the hundreds of tourist to our end point. Had lunch at a quaint restaurant with tasty dishes, followed by 1.5hrs ride back to hotel. Above average level of fitness required. Highly recommend this tour, probably the highlight of our Beijing trip.

Amazing Views and Great Guide. - Jason was a great guide, and the walk was well worth it! Went while it was very cold, but this meant the views were spectacular from the top! Going along the more abandoned parts of the wall was so much fun, and was a lot more unique and interesting than the restored parts. You do get to see the restored parts at the end of the walk as well.

Unforgettable moment with our guide James - Unforgettable moment with our guide James. We have booked the tour over the unrenovated great wall with 6km hiking. The hike is strenuous and should not be underestimated. The ascent is harmless, as is the hike over the great wall, but the descent with its thousands of steps absolutely guarantees sore muscles. But the tour is worth it, standing alone on the unrenovated Great wall is priceless. The guide James and our driver were just top over the top. Very nice and companionable and the food afterwards divine❤️❤️❤️❤️.. We are still raving about this and the tour. We can only recommend this tour operator to over 199% and would book with them. Everything was perfect from the booking to the contact before and during and after the tour it was the highlight of our Beijing trip

Favourite Hike along the Great Wall - This is one of many hikes we’ve done with James and we cant speak highly enough of his patience, experience and knowledge about this part of the wall and many others in and around Jiankou. A terrific day out, with breathtaking and wonderful sights and sounds. James always keeps us all entertained and is also focused on safety and timeliness.

Wondering if you should ? Yes do it! - Absolutely worth it! A beautiful and wonderful hike with some challenges but just enough to feel that we are climbing a mountain ! Absolutely gorgeous views, the pictures do not do justice to the actual beauty of the area. I strongly recommend. Peter, my guide was attentive and knowledgeable. I would do this again with my family.
