Regarded as ‘Wuzhen in Beijing’, Gubei Water Town boasts a combination of mountains, water and ancient villages. Most buildings are reconstructed in the traditional courtyard style. Based on five ancient villages and a water resource, this water town has developed into a large-scale sightseeing and holiday destination.
- Simatai Great Wall - The Simatai Great Wall(司马台长城 Sīmǎtái Chángchéng) is largely in its original state, as it has not undergone much renovation like other sections near Beijing.It is situated in Miyun County, 120 kilometers (74.5 miles) northwest of downtown Beijing.This particular section, built in the early Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), is 4.5 kilometers (2.8 miles) long, with the Jinshanling Great Wall to the west. It is really a tough hike to climb the wall, but it is enormously rewarding.

Magical day in Gubei Water Town - We could not have had a better day. This excursion was so worth the 2/2.5 hour drive from Beijing. Our driver was great - he set us up with all of the tickets we needed when we got there. The Simatai section of the Great Wall is so incredible. There were very few other people (unlike the large crowds at other sections) and the views from the wall were breathtaking. Water Town is just magical. We made sure to do the tour later in the day so we would be able to walk through Water Town after sunset when it is lit up. Again, the town was not at all crowded. The town itself is so clean and well maintained - it looks like it was just built. We did a boat ride from the entrance to the other end of the town where the cable car to get up to the wall was. After going to the wall, we strolled through Water town and had a great meal. Next time we visit China we plan on staying in one of the many hotels in Water Town so we can really explore the town.

Very good - We went to Jinshandling Great Wall and the Beijing Wtown and the taxidriver was very kind. He helped us to get the tickets, waited for us and braught us back to the hotel. It was already very good service, he was in time and we would recommend this taxi driver!

So happy we booked here! - Fabulous driver (Su Debin) who made everything so easy. He booked all our tickets that were required for entry and directed us to where we needed to go. We booked the car for the entire day and Su Debin was so accommodating. We would highly recommend. Thank you!

The magic of the Great Wall - The experience of climbing on the Great Wall is amazing. Even more amazing is to be able to do it without crowd (which is impossible in Great Wall stations closer to Beijing). In Simatai, most of the ascension is done by cable car, which also gives a great view of the surrounding mountains. Then there are 2 walks and you can cover 10 of the stations of the area. Beware that the path is at times very steep and definitely not wheelchair friendly. We have visited the area during the day but we understand that the Great Wall is illuminated at night: it must be a breathtaking experience.
Gubei Town is a resort that has been built recently, trying to look like an old village: despite being a bit like DisneyWorld from this perspective, it is actually quite cute.
You can buy tickets separately for the Great Wall, just the Town or combined.
Although our friend recommended to stay there one night because of the illumination and other evening shows, we went there for a day tour from Beijing due to lack of time. Our car was very comfortable and the driver really kind, punctual and professional: communication was through a translating app, as this is common practice in Beijing. Due to the awful traffic in the capital we took a bit more time than expected to come back, so the trip that should have lasted 9 hours actually took 10 hours. Not a big problem as the extra hour of the rent was around 60 CNY.
Definitely recommend this visit.

Comfortable ride to Gubei Watertown - First trip to Beijing and Benny service provided comfortable travel to Gubei Watertown direct from Daxing International Airport. Driver Mr Lau makes us feel at home with his nice comfortable 7-seater. He makes sure we get to the correct location by making contacts with resort service center as we are unsure what to expect. 2 days later, Benny’s driver drives us back to Beijing with good information of city.
Gubei Watertown is highly recommended to explore Simatai Great Wall where it is not crowded making the climb relaxing and rewarding. Resort town lineup many Activities throughout day and night.

Great trip, spacious car and wonderful driver ;) - Gubei watertown is beautiful 🤩 Love the 7 seater car with bucket seats. It is spacious and although the journey was 2 hours plus due to the traffic jam , we were so comfortable during the ride, the journey felt much shorter. The driver assigned to us is very friendly and even proposed a toilet break for us in the middle of the journey. The company will confirm and remind us about the trip a day in advance. Thankful for the smooth trip. Highly recommended!!!

A day out we were not expecting to be so special! - Due to high winds our plans around Beijing were changed. The tour guides told us about this day trip instead! We are so glad they did as it was magical. Village was superb with loads of amazing things to see and access to the wall via cable car to 6th tower and walk down back was breathtaking. A once in a lift time day out away from all the crowds. Can not fault the organisation from this company from 8 months out they always responded and delivered everything they promised and more. Our driver Jack was superb and spoke excellent English. So pleased we stayed for some time here and did this activity.

Great wall experience with Gubei water town as a bonus - We had a private driver Mr Si. Very safe driver. We went to this section of the Great wall due to the weather warnings and was pleasantly surprised with the wall section as well as Gubei Water town. loved it! Professional and Courteous Services - Overall excellent service from this company. Benny reached out to me within an hour after I booked for this service, and he was informative and flexible to the unpredictable weather situation.
Mr. Su Debin was my driver and was extremely friendly and made extra effort to inform me despite the language barrier.
