Additional Information

Similar to Gibraltar’s rock, the Brimstone Hill Fortress was under the control of two European powerhouses, continuously contending for the mastery of this Hill and its surrounding island. It was the British and the French who constructed these fortifications to safeguard themselves from Spanish attacks and their own conflicts.

In 1689, the French triumphed by seizing the British Fort Charles in Sandy Point. They strategically moved cannons to Brimstone Hill which had a commanding view over Fort Charles. Nevertheless, the British successfully regained Fort Charles in 1690. Understanding its pivotal location, the British commenced the construction of this grand fortress.

That’s just a brief glimpse into the deep-seated history waiting to be uncovered on our exclusive hike.
