- Praça Desembargador Araújo Jorge - The hike begins at 8 am when the trail opens. The path winds through the Atlantic Forest, a stunning and shaded natural setting teeming with diverse wildlife and plant life. It is a challenging hike, featuring many natural obstacles and tests along the route.
After covering about two-thirds of the hike, participants reach a 30-meter “scramble” - a steep, rocky section known as Carrasqueira, where ropes and other climbing gear are used to safely reach the top. At this point, the trail emerges from the dense forest, revealing breathtaking views! After an additional 20 minutes of hiking, hikers arrive at Gavea’s magnificent summit - a remarkable plateau offering panoramic views of Rio de Janeiro and its stunning scenery.
After spending some time at the summit and capturing numerous photos, the descent begins along the same trail used to ascend. The descent of Carrasqueira involves using a rope and a rappel-like technique, ensuring a safe and confident passage through this section.
While the trail is demanding, no prior hiking or rock climbing experience is necessary. The guides set a pace that accommodates all participants and provide plenty of hiking and climbing advice throughout the journey!
