It is located on the slopes of Barouk mountain and has an area of 550 km², nearly 5.3% of the Lebanese territory and 70% of Lebanon’s green area, making it the largest nature reserve in the Middle East. It is part of the Al-Shouf Cedar Nature Reserve, also recognized by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve in 2005.
