Additional Information

Montserrat - A Mountain, a Monastery, and a Sanctuary

From a geological perspective, Montserrat is exceptionally stunning. Besides its natural grandeur, it’s also recognized as a sacred site for Christians and houses both a Benedictine Monastery that is nearly a millennium old, and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Montserrat. This day-long trip allows you to wander through the Abbey of Montserrat. You’ll get an opportunity to pay homage to ‘La Moreneta’, the revered black Madonna of Montserrat, and also spare some time for a simple hike to soak in the breathtaking scenery from St Michael’s cross or take the funicular up to the mountain peak. If art is more to your liking, the Art Museum presents another option. A special treat will be the Boy’s Choir recital just before your lunch break.

A one hour train journey takes you to Montserrat, where you’ll ascend the mountain on a Cable Car and descend via Rack railway train. Alternatively, if you opt for the van/bus, you will still have the chance to ride the Cable Car, unless you indicate otherwise.

Montserrat day - David was the perfect guide for Montserrat and his knowledge of the tour was incredible. He knew so many facts and information that only a guide with an interest in sharing knowledge would know. Despite the rain at times , he altered activities to accommodate the weather but we still were able to see everything we wanted and hike back from the cross on the hill. His tips for us did not end when the day ended. We had also hired him for the next day. He gave us restaurant and wine suggestions too!
