If you like history then this niche museum is worth seeking out - This museum tells the history of Catalonia specifically, not something most visitors would know about. I concentrated on the 19th and 20th century displays which explain the politics and social restraints which, to a large extent, have influenced Catalonia's striving to be independent. There are English information which tell the story; the exhibits themselves less so. The staff at this museum are the friendliest i have met and they treat all visitors as special guests. Big shout to Ramon (Ray) who was an excellent ambassador for the museum

Excellent overview of Barcelona History - There are lots of museums in Barcelona that say they are history museums. But if you want to learn about Barcelona’s origins and subsequent history over the last 2000 years then this is the place to come. The Museum uses recreations and exhibits to tell the story of the city. The narrations are in three languages including English and the museum is really top notch. My wife and I spent several hours here. After you finish, visitors are encouraged to go out on the roof where there is a bar and views of the entire waterfront. I am a history teacher but learned so much about the city and what it means to be Catalonian. This is also one of the best museums to learn about the Spanish Civil War.

Learned a lot - Our knowledge of Catalan history was unfortunately lacking but this museum changed it. We cannot recommend it enough! Very informative and interactive so even our kids enjoyed :-) At the moment (August 9th) the museum is having technical problems with the AC so the entrance is free. They have fans situated on the premises so it wasn’t uncomfortable to explore. So glad to include this museum in our Barcelona itinerary!

Great museum to gain an insight into Catalonia and the civil war - VG museum - Expains the history of Catalonia and also brings in nicely the Spanish civil war. I thought the exhibits were well presented and relevant with areas to digress if you want more (for example architecture, clothing, life in certain periods) or a fast track through the general history. Tri-lingual with English on all the exhibits

Terrific museum experience! - Fantastic museum! One of the best things to do in Barcelona! Beautiful facility, built over the ruins of the city that you can actually walk among. Great overview of the history of the city! Leave at least one hour for walking thru the ruins. This was a Highpoint of our visit!

Worth Knowing (Visiting with Time) - Attention correct, they have lockers to leave small suitcase and backpack, you must put coin of 1 euro. You must leave your things, it is mandatory. The Museum is huge the 2nd and 3rd floor were my favorites. Properly History, worth knowing. The 4th floor has photography exhibitions, Library and a lovely terrace, the views are amazing towards the Port or Pier. They also have on the 4th floor a Restaurant 1881. On all floors they have toilets.

Beware it's not a museum - This is not a museum because there are no original pieces. There are many photo cards and reconstructions, but it is very informative and very educational. You learn a lot and it's a lot of fun if you have kids because you can dress up. Beautiful view from the top with a nice restaurant. Modest entrance.
