The fortress’s geographical position, atop the mountain, perfectly aligns with its historical role in defending access to the salt mines. The structure also offers a stunning view of the Cardener River Valley. From the 11th to the 15th century, the castle served as the residence of some of the country’s most noble lineages. As a defensive structure for the salt mines, the castle withstood numerous sieges throughout its history.
