Nerding out for Barcelona Architecture - Our guide on the Barcelona & Gaudi walking tour, Tomas, admitted from the start that he was a huge nerd and he was telling the truth, but in the best possible way. He not only knew every fact and detail about the city, its most famous architect, and each building but was filled with such a giddy passion that it spread to all of us.

We see the whole city with new eyes! - We loved this tour-- even though it was a 3 hour walking tour in 100 degree heat, which is saying a lot! Jelena was incredibly knowledgeable, thoughtful and engaging. Far beyond just learning about Gaudi and the landmarks, we really learned how to see the whole city with completely new eyes, which made us appreciate our entire stay so much more thanks to this tour, enjoying things we'd absolutely never have noticed. It was also mind-expanding in terms of making us think more curiously about how cities are planned (or not planned) and the choices that go into the places we live. Thank you Jelena!

A very interesting tour - Tomas was absolutely amazing. His knowledge and passion for this subject was undeniable. He had the perfect balance of telling us exactly how much we needed to hear and was ready for any questions. I would highly recommend this tour as a great way to appreciate this great city and how it was designed and built.

Outstanding experience!!! - This was an absolutely amazing tour. Our guide, Pia, put many of the buildings on the tour (and elsewhere in Barcelona) in the context of architecture, history, politics, and daily life. Doing this gave depth to the rest of our visit to Barcelona. Highly recommend!

Gaudi Tour - Our tour with Carmen was amazing, fun and so informative. As an architect myself I really appreciated her knowledge of Gaudi, Barcelona history and urban planning. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Barcelona!

Great orientation to Barcelona architecture - Our tour guide Pia was full of knowledge, we felt like we were in great hands with a local with great depth of knowledge & an interesting perspective as a long term Barcelona resident who formerly lived in the US. Our nephew who is a recent college graduate loved the tour as much as the 2 adults in our group.

Excellently guided tour of beautiful Barcelona - This small tour was guided superbly. It was really fun to walk around this area of Barcelona and to view Gaudi's first building all the way to his last (not counting S. Familia). Our guide was a practicing architect and her presentation gave us history, architectural details and urban planning context. She patiently answered many questions. The short stop at a beautiful "secret" garden cafe to rest our legs was helpful. We strongly recommend it!

As much about Barcelona urban environment as about Gaudi - Really outstanding tour. This tour really was about putting Gaudi's architecture in conversation with the surrounding environment and in the context of Barcelona's 19th century expansion. Our guide (Pia) was so thorough in giving us the broader context of Barcelona's infrastructural history. We viewed a view Gaudi facades and walked to key places in the city, but did not enter buildings (we were happy to book those timed tickets on our own the next few days). Some of the information was difficult/technical (the guide had an engineering background), but honestly, this is exactly what we wanted -- a tour from an expert, not just a professional tour guide with a rehearsed speech. I would recommend this to anyone looking for high quality information about design, not just an aesthetic tour of pretty buildings.

Two Excellent Days with Barcelona Architecture Walks - We took two architectural walks with Barcelona Architecture Walks during our 4 days in Barcelona. They were quite different and had different strengths so it is worthwhile to understand and know what you are interested in before you book. We did the Barcelona and Urbanism Tour with Jelena, who is a practicing architect as well as a professor of architectural history. The following day we did a 5 hour tour of Park Guell, Sagrada Familia and Casa Batlo with Guille. Guille is a licensed guide which allowed us to go into these three sites but he is not an architect. Our tour with Jelena was an in depth look at how the city of Barcelona developed and expanded with a special focus on Gaudi and his contemporaries and how they fit into the story of Barcelona. You do not go into the buildings on this tour but we looked at the different style of buildings that were being constructed contemporaneously and learned a lot about Gaudi's unique approach. Jelena was an excellent and knowledgeable guide; she is also a professor of architectural history so a perfect fit for our small group.
Our second day was the tour of Parc Guell, Sagrada Familia and Casa Batlo with Guille. Parc Guell was mobbed as was Sagrada Familia. I think Guille told us that 14,000 people visit Sagrada Familia daily. We did a private tour with just 4 of us and I think that helped enormously with the ability to get in and out of these very crowded sites. Guille was charming, professional and very adept at getting us around and through the sites while allowing us ample time to marvel at the stain glass and palm-tree ceilings of the Sagrada Familia. He handled all the tickets and whisked us through every line. We lucked out with our visit to Casa Batlo as there were not a lot of people in the house while we were there so we had an unhurried tour of the house. I did feel like the second tour of the more important sites was a more "standard" tour, but in many ways the sites do not need a lot of explanation and of greater importance to us was getting in and through the crowds in a reasonable way. Guilles was great at that. I would not have wanted to attempt either Park Guell or Sagrada Familia without a guide. Jelena provided a lot of detailed information about the city and about the buildings specifically -- so we learned a lot from her and saw a lot with Guille and that was a great combination. It was very easy to work with Barcelona Architecture Walks to create the tours that we wanted. They arranged all of the timing and the tickets which is a complicated task when going from site to site with tightly timed entries. I very much recommend Barcelona Architecture Walks.
