• Wat Phra Chetuphon - Cross the river to visit the Temple of the Reclining Buddha (Wat Pho). Wat Pho is the oldest and largest temple in Bangkok, recognized as a first-class royal temple like Wat Arun or Wat Benchamabophit (The Marble Temple). It is renowned for the enormous Reclining Buddha. The temple is also known as Thailand’s first university and the center of traditional Thai massage. Originally an ancient temple from the Ayutthaya period called Wat Photharam, it was restored by King Rama I (1782－1809) in 1788. He ordered all Buddha images from abandoned temples in the countryside to be enshrined in the ubosot (ordination hall). After the temple celebration in 1801, it was renamed Wat Phrachetuphon Wimonmangkhalawat.

Named after the Indian God Aruna (God of Dawn), the temple majestically sits on the Thonburi side (west bank) of the Chao Phraya River and is one of the most distinctive and significant landmarks of Bangkok’s skyline. The most spectacular view of the gleaming monument can be seen from the east side of the river at sunset, as Wat Arun’s beautifully decorated towers shimmer brilliantly over the water.
• Temple of the Golden Buddha (Wat Traimit) - The Golden Buddha statue is believed to date back over 700 years to the Sukhothai kingdom. Like many other significant Buddha images from that era, the statue was covered in plaster to conceal its true value from invading armies. When it arrived in Bangkok during the reign of Rama III (1824-1851), the statue was still adorned with this stucco decoration.
