Stargazing in Banff National Park – A Magical Night Under the Sky - I recently went on a stargazing tour in Banff National Park (June 16), and it was one of the most memorable experiences of my trip to the Rockies. Although the summer sky was brighter than expected—thanks to the long daylight hours—we still saw a surprising number of stars. And honestly, the journey was just as special as the destination. The tour began with a hike into the wilderness after dark. There's something incredible about walking through a forest trail at night, with nothing but your headlamp, the crunch of gravel underfoot, and the occasional rustle of wildlife in the distance. It felt adventurous, peaceful, and oddly grounding all at once. We were offered a refund at the start of the tour, likely due to the brightness of the summer sky affecting star visibility. But none of us wanted to miss out. The chance to explore Banff’s wild beauty under a twilight sky was too good to pass up. It ended up being the right decision. Our guides were fantastic—one from England and the other from Scotland. They were around my age, which made it feel more like hanging out with well-informed friends than being in a traditional tour. Both were incredibly knowledgeable about the stars, constellations, and the local area. They shared fascinating stories about the night sky and the surrounding wilderness, keeping the entire group engaged and curious. Even with a brighter sky, we saw constellations. But more than that, it was about the overall experience: stepping away from artificial light, breathing in the fresh alpine air, and reconnecting with nature in a quiet, meaningful way. Highly recommend this tour if you're in Banff or nearby—even in summer. It’s not just about the stars. It’s about the magic of being in the wild, at night, under a sky that makes you feel small in the best way possible.

even with not the most clearest skies still an amazing experience - Wasn’t the clearest skies but the tour guides did a great job describing the mountains and constellations. They were very nice and made the experience what it was which was great!

Starry Night - Our guides, Euan and Isla were great. The night sky was spectacular with stars. As the night got darker, more stars were visible. I recommend this tour.

Highly Recommend! - The guides were so knowledgeable and welcoming. They provided safety expectations prior to leaving and interesting tidbits about the stars and constellations along the way. I was so impressed with the ability to get a refund if the weather wasn’t good or the skies were cloudy. The guides operated with integrity and made this a wonderful experience! Highly recommend!

Highly recommend this tour - Isla was an amazing guide. She was very friendly and easy to talk to, as well as informative. She taught us how to take beautiful pictures on our phone in less than 5 minutes. It was an easy hike and we were lucky to see Northern Lights at the end of the tour. Highly recommend.

Amazing walk and great photo taking advice - The tour guides were incredibly knowledgeable of the local area including wildlife and the geographic features of the area. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side but still managed to get some brilliant nighttime photographs with the help of our guide. As a added bonus, we saw a Mamma bear and two cubs (from a safe distance) near the end of the tour

More of a Night-Photography-for-Amateurs Tour Than a 'Sunset' Tour - Firstly, the guides were friendly, they were punctual, and I did not mind walking to the meeting point from the town of Banff. The logistics seemed fine and everyone was nice, so I'm rounding up their score from 3.5 to 4. However, the tour is not well-named (it should include the word 'photography'). While you may or may not see a sunset depending on timing, our tour started in total darkness. This was also fine but WHY does this company not inform people that stops will be made for photos? Had I known this I would have brought my tripod. Instead, we got the most basic lessons on photography for total and complete amateurs -- I'm talking about telling people what it means to do a long exposure, what the rule of thirds was -- this was a very boring and tedious portion of the tour for me, because I have a decent camera but did not realize we'd be doing so much standing around as I waited for people to learn about taking a camera photo at night. Another issue, which has NOTHING to do with this company or its employees, is that if you have seen a truly spectacular night sky, this is probably gonna be a letdown. I am spoiled and used to being able to see the Milky Way, unaided, in Dark Sky parks. When I visited, I saw Banff is nothing like that. You will get some good sights, (and a sad view of Starlink polluting our atmosphere)... But IMO, it's not incredibly impressive and awe-inspiring the way some night tours can be - no Milky Way, no mind-melting star clusters. So I maybe, might do this tour again - but ONLY if I had my tripod.
