Lake Tana - Lake Tana is Ethiopia’s largest lake, making up 50% of the country’s inland water.

The diverse plant and animal life in its waters have earned Lake Tana a nomination as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

The lake is surrounded by one of Africa’s largest wetland networks, which hosts significant annual bird migrations and large populations of Great White Pelicans.

Lake Tana has numerous islands, many of which house 14th-century monasteries adorned with ancient artifacts, frescoes, and intriguing wall paintings.

Gonder - After breakfast, drive north to Gondar. Visit Gondar’s landmarks, including the Royal Enclosure with its six castles and various other structures.

Fasil Ghebbi - Also, see Fasiladas’s Pool, still used for Timket celebrations, and Debre Birhan Selassie church, known for Ethiopia’s most famous ceiling frescoes. Visit Kuskuam, a partially ruined former palace overlooking Gondar.

Simien Mountains

Pay the entrance fees and meet your scout and local guide. Continue driving to Sankaber (31 km), the park’s first campsite. Lalibela - Addis Ababa

Finally, see the most famous church – Bet Giyorgis, a large monolithic cross-shaped structure built in honor of St. George, Ethiopia’s patron saint. After your visit, transfer to Lalibela airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa.

Additional Information

World Heritage–listed Harar is a place apart. With its 368 alleyways squeezed into just 1 sq km, it’s more reminiscent of Fez in Morocco than any other city in the Horn. Its countless mosques and shrines, animated markets, crumbling walls and charming people will make you feel as if you’ve floated right out of the 21st century. It’s the east’s most memorable sight and shouldn’t be missed. As if that wasn’t enough, there are many chances to get up close and personal with wild hyenas. It’s a rare traveller who doesn’t enjoy it here.
