Day 1 - Alexandria to the White Desert
Bahariya Oasis - At 5:00 am, the operator will pick you up from your hotel in Alexandria and drive you to Bahariya Oasis, located approximately 504 km east of Cairo. This journey takes about 6 hours. In the past, when residents of Bahariya wanted to travel to the Nile Valley, they often waited for a passing caravan, taking three days to journey between the Nile and the oasis. How fortunate we are today!
There will be two coffee breaks during the trip.
On the right-hand side, you will see the railways transporting iron ore deposits to the steel mill in Helwan. While not of interest to tourists, Bahariya Oasis is the main source of iron ore in Egypt. The iron ore is found in the middle Eocene limestone and is located in four areas known as Managim.
At 10:00, you will arrive at Bahariya Oasis and meet your safari guide, who will take you in a 4x4 Jeep to begin your adventure.
Black Desert - Travel to the Black Desert, named for the layer of black powder covering its mountains, highlands, and sand. This powder coats the peaks of some mountains.
Farafra - At 12:00, lunch will be served in El Haize Oasis, located 37 km from Bawiti. Some consider this a separate oasis. During Roman times, the area was very prosperous, and many current families originally hail from Libya. Before lunch, you can relax in a hot water spring, which will almost instantly relieve stress. The heat naturally relaxes tense muscles, promoting feelings of calm, well-being, and tranquility.
There is a museum here called the Water Museum, built to demonstrate the importance of underground water for desert inhabitants and the tools Egyptians used to raise water for irrigation.
Valley of Agabat - At 13:00, drive to the Valley of Agabat.
At 14:00, arrive at the Valley of Agabat deep within the White Desert. The place’s otherworldly beauty must be experienced firsthand. Millions of years ago, it was underwater. Over time, unique rock formations of limestone, chalk, and possibly sand developed.
White Desert - At 17:30, set up tents and enjoy the sunset.
At 18:30, as the sky turns pink and a deep fiery orange, the rock shapes fade, and silence surrounds you. Sitting around a small fire and enjoying a simple meal of chicken, rice, and vegetables, you will find it incredibly satisfying. Bedouin staff will arrange dinner and desert camping. (Vegetarian options are available.)
Note: At night, temperatures can drop suddenly in the White Desert, so a proper jacket is necessary for a comfortable night. Don’t worry, all camping equipment like sleeping bags, tents, and mattresses is provided.
Day 2 - White Desert - The Magic Lake and Wadi El Rayan
Valley of the Whales (Wadi Al-Hitan) - After breakfast, depart from the camping site to enjoy an amazing trip to Wadi El Hitan National Park.
Wadi El Hitan, also known as Wadi Al Hitan, is a protected area and a Natural Heritage Site added in 2005 by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It is also known to scientists as the Zeuglodon Valley.
Wadi El-Rayan - Seven kilometers south of the waterfall, along the left eastern side of the road, is a picturesque area known as Al Mudawara, The Lookout. There are three mountains along the lakeshore, making it a favorite picnic area.
Wadi El Rayan is a depression 42 meters below sea level, covering 673 km. In 1966, this depression became a water reservoir when it was connected to Qarun Lake by an underground pipe.
