Highlights
  • Uluwatu Temple - The guide and driver will collect you from the hotel and take you to the famous cliff-hanging temple at Uluwatu. As you approach the temple, you may pass by large numbers of mischievous monkeys that roam the pathways. There are two entrances to the temple decorated with sculptures and statues. Within the gates you will find courtyards and more statues of Hindu gods. The views over the sparkling Indian Ocean and Bali’s top surfing spots are endless.
  • Kecak and Fire Dance - In the inviting amphitheatre, take your seat for the dramatic Kecak fire dance. As the sun sets and the sky dims, watch the story of the famous epic Hindu story of the Ramayana unfold on the sunken stage in the centre. Wearing traditional checked cloth around their waists, the male dancers chant in unison and shake their hands while depicting a battle from the Ramayana epic. For added drama, human vocals are used in place of gamelan instruments. The use of fire torches adds to the excitement as the performance gradually builds to a sensational fire-related climax.

At the end of the show, the driver will take you back to the hotel.

Additional Information

Perched precariously atop a sheer precipice, about 70 meters above the tumultuous waves of the Indian Ocean, sits the Uluwatu Temple. Also known as Pura Luhur Uluwatu, this temple dates back to the 11th century.

Considered one of Bali’s nine key directional shrines, it’s believed to shield the island from malign spirits. In the archaic language of Bali, ‘luhur’ signifies ‘divine origin,’ ‘ulu’ refers to ‘the edge of the land,’ and ‘watu’ means ‘stone.’ The name aptly encapsulates the essence of this magnificent coastal temple. The enthralling Kecak fire dance, a quintessential performance in Bali, is performed most evenings at sunset in the adjacent amphitheatre.
