Chasing Turtles and Thrills: A Day in Nusa Penida’s Waters
Drawn by the allure of Nusa Penida’s vibrant waters, I embarked on a thrilling snorkeling adventure. With the ocean as my playground, the day promised unforgettable encounters with sea turtles and breathtaking vistas.
Setting Sail to Nusa Penida
The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I found myself at the bustling port of Serangan, ready to embark on a day of adventure. The promise of snorkeling in the vibrant waters of Nusa Penida was too tempting to resist. As a former professional surfer, the ocean has always been my playground, and the thought of exploring new underwater realms had me buzzing with excitement.
Our guides for the day, Roby and Nyoman, greeted us with warm smiles and a wealth of knowledge about the ocean. Their passion for the sea was infectious, and I knew we were in good hands. As we boarded the sleek speedboat, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of anticipation for the day ahead. The crossing to Nusa Penida was a breezy 30-minute ride, with the salty sea air invigorating my senses.
Snorkeling in Paradise
Our first stop was the secret Bali Hai Lagoon near Lembongan Island, a hidden gem with crystal-clear waters and vibrant coral gardens. As I slipped into the water, I was immediately surrounded by a kaleidoscope of tropical fish, their colors dancing in the sunlight. The highlight of the morning was undoubtedly the sighting of four majestic sea turtles gliding gracefully through the water. It was a moment that reminded me of the deep connection I share with the ocean.
The current was strong, a reminder of the ocean’s power, but with my experience in the water, I relished the challenge. For those less confident, lifejackets were available, and our guides ensured everyone had the opportunity to witness the underwater wonders safely. The morning flew by as we explored three different snorkeling spots, each offering its own unique beauty.
A Scenic Ascent and a Culinary Delight
After a morning of underwater exploration, it was time to head inland for a scenic car tour to Kelingking Cliff. The journey up the hill was an adventure in itself, with the road more of a rugged track at times. The view from the top, however, was worth every bump and jolt. The iconic T-Rex shaped cliff offered breathtaking vistas that left me in awe.
Lunch was a delightful affair at AMARTA Penida, where we dined with views of Mount Agung and enjoyed a buffet of delectable cuisine. The infinity pool and private white sand beach were the perfect spots to unwind and reflect on the morning’s adventures. As much as I love the thrill of the ocean, there’s something to be said for savoring a moment of tranquility amidst such stunning scenery.
Though the waves were too big to visit the manta ray spot in the afternoon, the decision to prioritize safety was a wise one. As we made our way back to Serangan, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the day’s experiences. The ocean had once again shown me its wonders, and I was reminded of why I continue to chase the thrill of island adventures. Until next time, Nusa Penida, you’ve been a dream.
