- Serapeum - The Serapeum of Saqqara served as the ancient Egyptian burial site for the sacred bulls of the Apis cult in Memphis. These bulls were considered incarnations of the god Ptah and were believed to become immortal as Osiris-Apis after death. This name evolved into Serapis (Σέραπις) during the Hellenistic period and Userhapi (ⲟⲩⲥⲉⲣϩⲁⲡⲓ) in Coptic. The Serapeum is part of the Saqqara necropolis, which also includes several other animal catacombs, notably the burial vaults for the mother cows of the Apis.
Over a period of about 1400 years, from the New Kingdom of Egypt to the end of the Ptolemaic Period, at least sixty Apis bulls were interred at the Serapeum. Initially, isolated tombs were built for the earliest burials. As the cult’s significance grew, underground galleries were created to connect subsequent burial chambers. Above ground, the main temple enclosure was expanded with shrines, workshops, housing, and administrative quarters.
- Memphis and Sakkara - Memphis (Arabic: مَنْف, romanized: Manf, pronounced [mænf]; Bohairic Coptic: ⲙⲉⲙϥⲓ; Greek: Μέμφις), or Men-nefer, was the ancient capital of Inebu-hedj, the first nome of Lower Egypt, known as mḥw (“North”). Its ruins are located near the present-day village of Mit Rahina (Arabic: ميت رهينة), in the Badrashin county, Giza, Egypt.
- Dahshur lake - Dahshur (often referred to as Dashur in English; Arabic: دهشور Dahšūr pronounced [dɑhˈʃuːɾ], Coptic: ⲧⲁϩϭⲟⲩⲣ Dahchur) is an ancient Egyptian pyramid complex and necropolis, sharing its name with the nearby village of Manshiyyat Dahshur (Arabic: منشأة دهشور) in Badrashin county, Giza.
