Fascinating and Exclusive - Don't judge a book by its cover was my daughter's review at the end of the tour. I booked this brilliant private tour of Bacalar with captain Jonathan based on all the previous tripadvisor reviews. He spoke excellent English and gave us loads of information about the natural features and wildlife of the lake as well as its history. When we first arrived to get on the boat my daughters were sceptical about the boat, it looked a little old and unloved. HOWEVER - this is where the don't judge a book by its cover comes in. The tour was excellent. If you want to see pretty much all of the lake and avoid big loud boats book Maniac Bacalar. Then you have areas of the lake and a guide all to yourself. Jonathan also gave us some brilliant authentic local recommendations for food in town which were delicious - we chose La Neta.

The Best Private Tour! - Jonathan was an amazing tour guide that knows and loves the lake. He truly takes the time to explain why it is so important to preserve the lake and the history of its existence. He loves the lake as if it was a family member and shows you parts of it that are left unseen by many other tours. Support Jonathan and his efforts to preserve this precious ecosystem!

Complete tour of Laguna Bacalar - Very pleasant and exciting boat tour! Totally recommend it. The boat is in good condition, very friendly tour guide and all information about biosphere and culture provided. Compared to other tours it gives you the whole ride of the lagoon, and is flexible regardin individual wishes ( where to snorkel etc.) One of the best experiences of our trip.

Great day on the lagoon - Great tour of southern part of lagoon. Jonathan is very knowledgeable and passionate about the lagoon and its ecology. Tour description says that it goes to Los Rapidos, which it does but you cant get close enough to ride the river.

Amazing Experience in Bacalar! A MUST-do! - We did this tour with our children (from 2 to 8) and it was extremely SAFE. The Captain was very thoughtful all the way. Jonathan, The Captain is also the person who shares all the information of everything you see along the ride and his PASSION is incredible. He knows such interesting facts about the origin of Bacalar and the lagoon. And most importantly he takes you to places that are not crowded and where you can be completely alone just breathing in the atmosphere and listening to nature. We loved it! Thank you for such a wonderful day!

The Best Guide on the Lake - Jonathon was one of the best tour guides we've ever had. As a world traveler, that means a lot. He made our adventure a total pleasure. He is a lawyer by degree but came back to Bacalar because of its beauty and history. You get to experience his intelligence and friendliness throughout the tour. His craft is not brand new but very able. It's probably about 18 feet long, with built in benches for 6 to 8 people to sit. There is also cover to get out of the sun, if need be. The boat is not as wide as the other pontoon boat on the lake, therefore, we went to places that other tours could not go. It was well worth it. Jonathan is well versed in English. Therefore, he could tell us the prehistoric history of how Lake Bacalar was formed along with the centotes in the lake. This is very interesting, by the way. He also knows the history of the Mayan culture, the Insurrection and how it affected the area's history, the Spanish and English explorers, etc. He is also well versed in the lake's modern history. But most of all, he intimately knows the lake and where to go to see all the magnificent colors of the water and the stromatolites! Definitely get into a conversation about stromatolites. The tour was so striking and memorable, I'm thinking of writing a short story about me and my wife's adventures on the lake. Thank you, Jonathan. You have created memories for years to come. For anyone wanting to tour the Lagoon of Seven Colors, Jonathan is the way to go bar none.
