- Bibi-Heybat Mosque - The Bibi-Heybat Mosque, constructed between 1267 and 1300, is renowned for its beauty and historical significance. It houses the tomb of Ukeyma Khanum, a descendant of Muhammad, and serves as a spiritual hub for Muslims in the region. It is a significant monument of Islamic architecture in Azerbaijan, locally referred to as “the mosque of Fatima.” The current mosque structure, a recreation of the original, was built in the 1990s.
- Gobustan Rock Art - The tour includes a visit to the Gobustan indoor and open-air museum, showcasing unique exhibits from millennia of history. The Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape features over 6,000 rock engravings, representing 40,000 years of rock art. The site includes remnants of caves, settlements, and burials, reflecting human activity from the Upper Paleolithic to the Middle Ages. Gobustan is valued for its rock art’s quality and density, providing insights into prehistoric hunting, fauna, flora, and lifestyles, as well as cultural continuity.
- Mud Volcanoes - Weather permitting, the tour will visit Azerbaijan’s renowned mud volcanoes, locally known as “Yanardagh” (burning mountain), “gaynacha” (boiling water), and “bozdag” (grey mountain). Of the 800 mud volcanoes worldwide, 350 are in Azerbaijan, primarily in the Gobustan region. Some are considered natural monuments and resources. A special taxi will be used due to road conditions, and an additional Soviet SUV Lada will be provided for close-up views of these active volcanoes.
- Gobustan Rock Art - Guests can explore the interactive museum at the Gobustan State Historical-Artistic Reserve, reopened in 2011 after reconstruction. The modern museum complex houses over 100,000 archaeological materials. Visitors are greeted by petroglyphs resembling the Azerbaijani Yalli dance. The information center offers touchscreen displays with multilingual information about the reserve and museum, divided into thematic sections. Artifacts and tools from the Paleolithic, Mesolithic, and Neolithic periods, along with animated presentations and videos, showcase Gobustan’s natural changes, human settlements, and ancient culture.
- Absheron Region - Lunch will be enjoyed at a traditional restaurant, with an additional cost.
- Yanardag State Historical, Cultural and Natural Reserve - Yanardag, Azerbaijan’s famous “Burning Mountain,” is located 23km north of Baku’s Old Town. The main attraction is a hill with a perpetually burning wall of flames, fueled by natural gas leaks from tectonic shifts and volcanic material. Marco Polo mentioned these flames during his travels. Declared a historical, cultural, and natural reserve in 2007, Yanardag offers a memorable experience of the “Land of Lights.”
- Ateshgah - Fire Temple - After lunch, the tour continues to Ateshgah, the “Fire Temple of Baku,” a castle-like religious site in Surakhani, Baku. With Persian and Indian inscriptions, it served as a Hindu and Zoroastrian worship site. “Atash” means fire in Persian. Built in the 17th–18th centuries around naturally burning flames, it was a pilgrimage site for fire-worshipping Hindus until the 1880s. The temple’s current form, unchanged since the early 19th century, features a five-corner complex with an entrance portal, battlement walls, and an open courtyard with a temple altar.
- Gosha Gala Tower - The tour concludes with a return to the starting point.
