City Overview - Pick up point was an easy 4-5 block walk from where Princess cruise ship docked. Good narrative in English aboard the full double decker bus. Good way to get an overview of the city. They sell one and two day passes…,we bought the two day pass by mistake on line.

Good way to get around town - The city tower had great views, but the Cathedral was closed and the driver should have known. Very disappointed.

Great tour of city homes - It was easy to find the locations, the bus was very nice, double decker. We stopped off at the zoo but directions to get into the zoo were zero, no signage. Lots of other tourists loved the museums.

Auckland Harbour - We discovered hop on hop off a few years ago. It is usually the first thing we do in a new city. A great way to get the lay-out of the city and to plan activities going forward. Also a relatively cheap way to get around.

Hop on Hop off Auckland - The upside was that purchasing thru Viator was a third of the price for the Princess version with the only difference that we had to walk a couple of blocks to get the bus. There were only a couple of places that we may have gotten off but opted to just stay on for the full two route circuit. Good overview, but not all that impressed with Auckland in general. All our other ports in NZ were much nicer.

Long waits for buses. Not worth the time. - Two stars only because the drivers were great, very friendly and helpful -- otherwise I would give it zero. We had only one full day in Auckland and thought this would be the best way to see as much as possible in a short time. Wrong. It probably would be good if you didn't spend hours waiting for buses to arrive. We waited at the stop near the sky tower for 45 minutes -- others had been in line even longer. Then at Mt. Eden we waited over an hour for a bus that never came. In the rain. With no shelter of any kind other than the dripping trees. Finally we called an Uber -- an added expense on top of what we had already paid for the bus tickets. Another couple there asked if they could join us in our uber back to the city center because they had been waiting even longer than us, and were unable to get cell service at that location. Who knows when the bus finally showed up? It also stops running early in the day (blue line last bus departs 3:30pm), so it is really hard to get your money's worth if you spend half the time waiting for buses to arrive. Don't bother. Many of the city center stops are easy walking distance to each other. Then just uber to the other sites you want to see.
