A great way to experience Aukland - Mike was a great guide who shared the history of the volcanoes and Aukland. It was a great way to see so much more of what Aukland really is. It was lots of walking but definitely worth all the steps to the summit of the volcanoes to see the sights of Aukland.

Tour is Exactly as Advertised - The full-day Grand Auckland Volcanoes tour did not disappoint. Mike of Voltours picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel. He was very organized and knowledgeable. We visited all the places mentioned in the tour description. Sure there's lots of walking especially up and around the craters at Mangere Mountain and to the top of Mount Eden. But the views made it worthwhile. In the afternoon we were driven to the top of Mt Victoria because someone in the group couldn't do the climb. So grateful! Besides volcanoes, we saw lots of sheep at the base of One Tree Hill, black swans near a pump station, lava rocks along the coast and a military fortress. We had an hour to get lunch in town and later stopped for ice cream near a beach. Mike often offered to take photos of us with our cameras. A nice touch.

Mike was an awesome tour... - Mike was an awesome tour guide. He took time to explain everything to us, even making a little game out of it (giving us an opportunity to guess the answers). All of the stops were perfect, with amazing views. Keep in mind that this tour does require quite a bit of uphill walking and you will get a good workout! Also, I liked the fact that I was supporting a small business.

Volcano Hikes - Mike is an excellent guide. He knows a lot about the geology of the volcanoes and the history of the Māori settling in the area. We had excellent views of the city and harbor. Be aware there is hiking up and down some of the volcanoes and wear appropriate shoes.

Auckland Volcano Tour - This is a tour with a difference! No driving up and down high streets looking at shopfronts and buildings. This was 'Raw' Auckland. Our Tour Guide, Mike, picked us up at our hotel, there was just me and my lovely wife so we had 'Mike' all to ourselves. The day was very windy, at time cold, and some rain, so not the most comfortable but we managed. The tour IS a lot of walking, much uphill, as to be expected! (But of course downhill too!) Mike proved to be a very knowledgeable, not just on volcanoes, but upon the associated indigenous history of each place we visited, whether volcano or township we drove through. It was a long tiring day but we ended with side of Auckland we hard;y knew existed. Well worth the effort. Thanks Mike!

Opt for the half day. Good tour for novices to geology/volcanology and new to the Maori culture. - We did the full day tour but found the half day would have met our needs. We were disappointed that our guide had no geology or volcanology related experience or degree, although TripAdvisor/Viator stated "expert guide". He said he "read a book". We should have asked more details before we booked, our mistake. We found ourselves wanting something meatier. The views are stunning and we enjoyed all the historical commentary about the Maori.

Chaotic, treats his clients differently - I spent one whole month in New Zealand and did everyday a tour. This one was the only disappointment I had. I usually don't give negative reviews but here I feel I have to. My first point is that I had to sit in the stinky back of the train. I know not everyone can sit in the front but using a vehicle where one of your clients has no view and not really fresh air crosses the line. There were many little examples like that. When it came to taking pictures of us, I was already the last one from the group and waiting in the burning sun. The guide Mike still felt it is necessary to take first pictures of foreigners than of his paying clients. So good so far. These are little things. A little awkward was also that he told me that it's interesting that in Germany they let me have my job (I'm very high qualified and have a very high position). I found it intersection that he finds that interesting (maybe because I am young and a woman?, anyways weird comment. What he will tell you about Maori culture and history is different than what Maori people will tell you. There is no judgment , just mentioning. The tour didn't end where it was supposed to be according to the description of the tour, but at the end he said: you can take the ferry to get back (I had to pay 8 dollars). Also unlike he said the ferry doesn't come every 10 minutes but every 30 minutes. In my case it had even a delay and I was waiting for an hour. Not cool. There were also other things that othered me, but I spent enough time for this review.
