Great tour! - We had a great walking tour with Andreas to visit the neighborhoods of Athens! We learned many things about Athens' culture and history we would never have known otherwise. Andreas was very knowledgeable and personable. Highly recommend!

Original and relevant - We had the chance to visit differently by discovering little known neighborhoods thanks to Nikos our guide. Thank you to him for all his unexpected and very informative discoveries about the daily lives of the Athenians. We highly recommend it. Sandrine and Sebastian

WOW, excellent tour. - We did the best of ancient and modern Athens private tour. It was amazing. Our guide was Sofia. She was so knowledgeable and patient with us. 100% will recommend this and will do this again with my kids. We had a good snack and coffee and then amazing Gyros. I recommend wear something light, airy, bing plenty of water and a hat and handkerchief or small towel for the heat and sweat.

What a great way to discover Athens - I highly recommend this tour company, this specific tour and especially our guide Danae. She met us at our hotel near the Acropolis and walked and talked us through 6 hours of amazing sites, neighborhoods and food. Danae educated us about the history of the ancient places and also addressed the philosophical along the way, what it meant to be an Athenian in different times all the way up to the present. This is a walking tour so wear comfortable, sturdy shoes and expect to walk 6 or 7 miles. We booked this tour for our first full day in Athens and then went back to some of the locations later in our stay.

Andreas Mogridge is the very best Athens, Greece tour guide - ever - Andreas Mogridge walked my family of four for over six hours today and at the end no one (excepting likely Andreas) knew we'd blown through the intended three hour allotment. It seems that every turn of the corner held new excitement with never ending & completely unexpected interests. Andreas was able to hold the attention of two teenage girls and their parents equally (not an easy job, I assure you.) With Andreas' guidance we have a very clear idea of ancient Athens, Greece all the way through to present day and the ramifications of vast array of contributors. I'd not want to tour Athens, Greece without Andreas!

Great tour of the local neighborhoods - I booked an all day private tour with Alternative Athens that was split into ancient (the Acropolis) and contemporary (the neighborhoods). While the ancient tour seemed pretty standard (likely minimal difference to other options), I absolutely loved the contemporary/neighborhood tour I had with Tania. I went in early September and I continue to tell my friends how great it was! This is my second time in Athens. My first time was 10 years ago and I left the city with an opinion I've heard from many others: half a day is enough - go see the Acropolis, but there isn't anything else. This time around I wanted to go beyond the Acropolis and see if I could find more to like about Athens (in the 1 day we had available) so after a decent amount of research, I found Alternative Athens, booked the tour not really expecting much and was so pleasantly surprised. Athens is an awesome city! I'm certainly looking forward to coming back one day and spending several days in Athens! What I loved most about the tour was being able to explore neighborhoods that are in the heart of the city, but away from the beaten path. Tania was so knowledgeable (she grew up in Athens) and I really enjoyed seeing the neighborhoods from her perspective. It very much felt like a tour I would give my friends of my favorite spots in San Francisco (where I live) and the places we went were places I could imagine myself frequenting if I lived in Athens (a girl can dream :). I generally don't book tours as I like to do lots of research and explore on my own, but I'm so glad I booked this one. Maybe I could've experienced some of it on my own, but probably not as comprehensively and efficiently given the time I had. And to be honest, some of the places we went to I'm not even sure I would've found it on my own! Definitely worth it!!
