• Acropolis - The day begins at the Acropolis, the heart of Ancient Athens, encircled by its remarkable cyclopean wall constructed by the Mycenaeans millennia ago. The Acropolis hosts the Parthenon and numerous other remarkable monuments. Enter through the grand ‘Propylaia,’ where a gold-encrusted statue of the Goddess Athena once stood. You’ll also view the Temple of Athena Nike (or ‘Victory’) from 420 BC, along with other significant sites like the mythical Erechtheion, notable for its unique construction and iconic Caryatids statues, and the World’s oldest Theater of Dionysus from the 6th Century BC, which witnessed the first performances of ancient plays by Sophocles and Euripides. The impressive, fully restored Roman theatre, Herodius Atticus, completed in AD 161, also on the site, was dedicated to the wife of a wealthy benefactor and still hosts a lively public Summer program.
• Parthenon - Widely regarded as a masterpiece of science, engineering, and culture, the Parthenon was dedicated to the goddess Athena and originally housed her magnificent statue. Its decorative sculptures are considered some of the pinnacles of classical Greek art, some of which are displayed in the nearby Museum.
• Acropolis Museum - Visit the New Acropolis Museum located next to the Acropolis, which showcases many masterpieces from the site. You may choose to continue without entering if you prefer.
• Temple of Olympian Zeus - This colossal temple in the heart of Athens was dedicated to the God Zeus, leader of the Olympian gods. Construction began in the 6th century BC, and the temple housed a richly adorned statue, one of the seven wonders of the Ancient World.
• Arch of Hadrian - A classic Triumphal Arch built by the Ancient Athenians for the Roman Emperor Hadrian, visible alongside the Temple of Zeus at the same location.
• Panathenaic Stadium - Also known as the ‘Kallimarmaro’ stadium, it is a highlight of Athens where the classic Marathon concludes and the only stadium in the world constructed entirely of marble.
• Syntagma - The main square of Athens, home to the Hellenic Parliament building and a focal point of Athenian life and politics. At the square, you will also witness the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the impressive Changing Of The Guard ceremony, featuring the iconic ‘Evzone’s’ in their traditional attire.
• Monastiraki - Monastiraki Square, at the heart of the Old Town, is a lively center of city life.
• Athens - DROP OFF. Finally, your driver will ensure your safe and direct return to your Athens Residence or Cruise Ship, bidding you a warm farewell and hoping to welcome you back soon!
• Athens - LUNCH OPTION: (No street food) If you select our lunch option during booking, you will enjoy a Traditional 3-Course Greek Lunch at a local Taverna, operated by the same family for over 35 years. Meat or Vegetarian options are available, along with Greek Salad and a Starter or Dessert (daily menus may vary).
