On our journey, we’ll visit Marathon Lake, the beginning of the marathon race, the city of Thives where Oedipus committed patricide in Aeschylus’ tragedy, and meander through the famous ski resort town of Arachova.
We’ll also explore Delphi, the temple of Athena tholos, the sacred spring, oracle and museum.
Indulge in a lunch with a breathtaking view of the Delphi riviera
Later, we’ll take an off-road expedition to an altitude of 1400m / 4593f to explore an oracle cave from 4000 BC which hasn’t been fully excavated.
Next, we’ll honor the HOT GATES, the monument dedicated to Leonidas and his 300 Spartans, with a comprehensive description and panorama of the battlefield, the path the traitor took to reveal to the Persians which led to the Spartans’ encirclement, and the hill where the final Spartan sacrificed his life in defense of King Leonidas’ remains.
Despite the prohibition of guides in the Delphi museum and archaeological site, I will spend the two-hour drive beforehand detailing the myths and historical events of ancient Greece - not just regarding Delphi, but also encompassing religious beliefs such as the Eleusinian mysteries relating to soul immortality, cultural practices and scientific development.
