A Tour Worth the Price! - This was a very informative tour of the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum. Our tour guide, Maria, was very knowledgeable and her English was excellent. She provided a lot of great information on the site as well as the history behind its development. She was very engaging and kept the whole group interested. The Acropolis and its are pretty wide open, so sun screen, a hat, and water are essential. You can buy water before you enter or as you live - but there’s nothing available during the walk through the site. There is a lot of stair climbing to reach the summit, but Maria paced it well so no one got too tired. It is definitely not a tour for anyone with mobility issues. This tour cannot accommodate wheelchair guests, because the only wheelchair accessible route is through an entrance on the other side. The tour route can get VERY crowded, and some of the steps are steep and slippery. Don’t get distracted by the sights and miss a step - or the tourist who stops mid-stairs to take a photo! It was well worth the extra cost for the Acropolis Museum tickets and the guided tour. Note that there are many features of the Acropolis buildings that were removed for preservation and have been replaced on site with replicas. Many of the originals are in the Museum. It is a highlights tour - touring the entire Museum would take all day. Maria was able to connect the artifacts in the Museum with the archaeological site we had just visited. We might have found things ourselves, but it was much better with a guide. Once that part of the tour was over, we were free to explore more of the Museum on our own. The tour uses assistive audio devices, so you can wander a bit and still hear your guide. They provide a single ear phone, but you can use your own headset/ear buds if it has the old-style plug. Although the tour is a bit expensive, to us it was well worth it to hear the culture and history from a truly knowledgeable guide. If we had wandered the site and read placards on our own, we never would have gotten as much out of the visit!

Very informative and interesting - Panyioti, our tour guide, was thoughtful, kind, informative and knowledgeable. Panyioti gave us very detailed information in a digestible style through an earpiece so he was easy to hear. You could learn as much or as little as you wish. Hopefully the earpiece was only one way ;) it must have been because I tested it and Panyioti didn't appear to react lol. Panyioti advocated for us when I didn't want to surrender my backpack to the museum cloakroom (due to valuables). He cared about each and every person on the tour and was kind and accommodating. The only downside was the unbearable heat and limited spots to sit during the hours of standing around in the hot sun. Panyioti told us he would try to limit our stops in the sun, but because the place was so busy, it was still too much for kids. This was no fault of the tour, the attractions had been closed a few days earlier because of this. The advantage of the tour is that we could skip the very long lines. Although, for me personally (and this does come down to personal preference) I would have preferred to move faster through the attractions at the expense of some of the information. My advice would be that the tour is worth it, especially because of the information, prepaid admission, skipping the queues and personal assistance, but take a hat, a fan (if you go in July), bottled water (preferably in a thermos bottle) and wear good shoes. There are vending machines with water, but they only accept coins. If you need to go ahead for limited shade, you can and you will still hear your guide through the ear piece. I saw kids crying trying to cope with the heat, so take as many precautions as you can if you go during a heatwave.

We are very impressed... - We are very impressed with the whole process from Viator. Booking online was very straight forward. Email confirmation was sent immediately after booking. If you download the Viator app to your mobile phone you can add the booking to the app for easy access. The tour was hosted by “Athens Walking Tours” We checked in with the “Athens Walking Tours” rep, who had our details on their computer, at the designated meeting point. We were handed a headset so we could hear the tour guide. Vassiliki was our guide who was very good. She collected us at the allotted time from the meeting point and then and took us to the side entrance of the Acropolis. We waited no longer than five minutes to gain entry. Vassiliki was very knowledge without overburdening us with too many facts. As we progressed towards the Parthenon we stopped at strategic points (where there was shade) and Vassiliki explained the significance of the various ruins. Once we reached the Parthenon we had about 15 mins to take photos. We also included the museum tour. Once we had slowly descended from the Parthenon Vassiliki took us around the museum explaining the different artefacts. The whole tour took approx. 3.5 – 4hrs. If you are looking for a tour of the Acropolis/Parthenon I would definitely recommend you consider booking with Viator For Cruisers Our cruise ship docked at Piraeus. We left the port at terminal B. Directly across the road is the bus stop for the X80 bus to Athens. The ticket office is at the bus stop. It cost us 4.10 euros each for a return ticket. If you get off at the Acropolis bus stop The Athens Walking Tour” meeting point is directly across the road. The return bus stop is on the opposite side of the road from where you were dropped off. We believe the X80 Bus runs approx. every 40 minutes.
