Arrival in Arusha: A Gateway to Adventure

As the plane descended towards Kilimanjaro International Airport, I felt a familiar thrill of anticipation. This was my annual pilgrimage to Africa, a continent that had captured my heart and lens many years ago. This time, I was embarking on the Luxury Northern Circuit Safari, a journey promising to unveil the breathtaking landscapes and wildlife of Tanzania’s northern parks.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by Salim, the owner of Off the Beaten Path Safaris, whose warm smile and genuine hospitality set the tone for the adventure ahead. He whisked me away to the Mount Meru Game Lodge, a serene oasis nestled at the foot of Mount Meru. The lodge’s small reserve, home to buffalo, ‘zonkeys’, and a variety of birds, offered a delightful prelude to the safari. As I sipped my morning coffee, I watched the animals graze, their silhouettes framed by the rising sun.

While waiting for the safari to commence, Salim offered to take me on a hike to the Kilimanjaro foothills. This unexpected detour allowed me to connect with local coffee and banana farmers, gaining insight into their sustainable practices and way of life. Into the Wild: Tarangire and Lake Manyara
